A Boy Named Jesus. Genesis 7:5 NLT

I wanted to share with you a time David and I did everything as the LORD commanded.

It was Saturday afternoon,  July 4th weekend in 2005. David and I usually went to church Saturday evening. I didn't want to go and was trying to convince David we should stay home. He insisted we go, so we went.

As we waited for service to start I read the bulletin. "Christian Family Care Agency is looking for foster families" it said. I showed it to David and asked him if he wanted to be a foster father. He said " Yes" and took the bulletin from me. Surely he hadn't heard me correctly. Service started.

After service we discussed it and decided it was time to look into fostering or adopting. After visits to agencies, we decided to adopt instead of foster. We started the long process of paperwork, interviews and inspections. Through the entire process we let the Lord lead. He led us to adopt an older child through the state. You know, those kids in foster care no one wants.

When our family and friends found out what we were doing, they thought we were nuts. They didn't mind telling us we were either. "Adopt an infant", "you have no experience with children", "adopt a foreign baby" and the one that hurt the most came from my Father "you have no business adopting an older child" .

But we did as the LORD commanded. We let the LORD lead. He gave us a boy named Jesus.

Noah faced ridicule, so did we. Noah faced mockery, so did we. Noah was probably laughed at, we probably were too. Noah did it anyway so did we.

I doubt Noah regretted it, either did we.

Genesis 7:5 NLT

5 So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

LUST

LUST is something that many people struggle with and many others lie about
not struggling with. There are many different statistics out there, one
survey stated that US adults who regularly visit internet pornography
websites is: 40 million people. Men have taken the beauty that God gave to
a woman specifically for her husband and twisted it into something that is
dirty and nasty. I remember the words of *Job 31:1 “I have made a covenant
with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?* There was an
"Icon" that recently died and many left him heartfelt condolences and good
thoughts. "Rest in peace", and thank you's for the good times. This man was
working at Children’s Activities magazine and then took many of those
children with him on a journey that no one should ever go. He had a
"Mansion" here on earth and today I am sad because of where he may have
ended up. It is written in *Matt 5:27 “You have heard that it was said to
those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that
whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery
with her in his heart.* Everyone will be judged for what they do here on
earth. Believers will be judged for their works and unbelievers for their
actions. Lust, like many other struggles, drugs and alcohol, has a snowball
effect. Once it gets rolling, it is very difficult to stop. It has never
been so easy to do the wrong thing. A person would have to go to a store to
get a magazine and now it is only a click away. Not only is the porn
industry targeting both male and female adults, they have even begun to
target children. I was 8 years old the first time I saw something that I
wish I would have never of seen. Porn kills the love that God intended. If
you are struggling and battling, know that you are not alone an there is
help.

As The Lord Commanded. Genesis 7:1-5 NLT

There's a lot packed into these 5 verses. First, imagine being the only person left on the earth who still respects and worships the Lord. Noah must have been mocked and ridicule the entire 100 years it took to build the ark.

Did Noah share with the people why he was building such a large boat miles and miles from the nearest body of water? Did he tell them "The Lord said" it will rain? If he did, they must have laughed, it had never "rained" before. Rain from the sky? Absurd!

But Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

We often think Noah only took two of each kind of animal. But God told Noah to take seven pair of each animal approved for eating and sacrifice. Eating makes sense but sacrifice? On the ark? Yes sacrifice. There would be sacrifices performed on the ark.

And Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

"Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird." Why? Why are the birds allowed seven pairs and no other species? Noah will only send out two doves and only one did not come back. Did Noah question God about this? Did Noah argue?

No, Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

Do you? Would you? If God asked you to do something for Him, even when you don't completely understand why or how would you question? Would you argue?

How many of us could say we did everything as the LORD commanded?

Genesis 7:1-5 NLT

1 When everything was ready, the LORD said to Noah, “Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous.  2 Take with you seven pairs—male and female—of each animal I have approved for eating and for sacrifice, and take one pair of each of the others.  3 Also take seven pairs of every kind of bird. There must be a male and a female in each pair to ensure that all life will survive on the earth after the flood.  4 Seven days from now I will make the rains pour down on the earth. And it will rain for forty days and forty nights, until I have wiped from the earth all the living things I have created.”

5 So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.

1 Peter 5- Be humble or be humbled!

Cast Your Cares on Him
5Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.”d
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you.

If you are willing to be nothing God will make something of you. The way to the top of the ladder is to begin at the lowest round. In fact in the church of God, the way up is to go down; but he that is ambitious to be at the top will find himself before long at the bottom.” (Spurgeon)

(Opposes) Resists: “The verb vividly pictures God as one who places Himself in battle array against such individuals.” (Hiebert)

The proud, we have all been there at one time or another. The Bible is full of people that were proud. What became of them?
"God as one who places Himself in battle array against such individuals."

Acts 12:21 On the appointed day, Herod donned his royal robes, sat on his throne, and addressed the people. 22And they began to shout, “This is the voice of a god, not a man!”
23Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

May we resist being proud and instead be humble before God, before God places Himself in battle array against you!

Be humble or be humbled!

Are you prepared for battle?

The battle is fierce, the battle is raging, and as a soldier of the Lord,
we need to learn how to stand for battle. Our battle manual is the Word of
God, the Bible. *Eph 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your
strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the
power of His [boundless] might. 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His
precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that
you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the
strategies and the deceits of the devil.* There are many Christian's that
only get their nutrition when they go to church and have someone else read
to them. It is like going to the doctor to get a check-up and never reading
the instructions that you were given on how to get better. After the
soldier has learned to stand, they need to show others how to stand as
well. The devil's desire is to have the child of God bring shame to Jesus
and if that does not happen, the enemy will attack the family and friends
of the soldier. Brethren, may we take this battle seriously and put on the
armor of God. There are souls being lost everyday, we MUST help equip the
weaker brethren. A.W. Tozer wrote, "Spiritual Christians look upon the
world not as a playground but a battleground". Are you prepared for battle?

1 Peter 5- An example of humbleness

1 Peter 5
Berean Study Bible
Instructions to Elders
1As a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a partaker of the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the eldersa among you: 2Be shepherds of God’s flock that is among you, watching over themb not out of compulsion, but because it is God’s will;c not out of greed, but out of eagerness; 3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

“It will always be our wisdom, dear friends, to put ourselves as much as we can into the position of those whom we address. It is a pity for anyone ever to seem to preach down to people; it is always better to be as nearly as possible on the same level as they are.” (Spurgeon)

Who is the Chief Shepherd? Jesus is and elders, pastors and teachers are responsible to Him.

How many of you know an elder or deacon that never advertised it or let it be known? I only know one such person. Humble he is, doing the work of God.
Let him be a lesson for us, an example of humbleness.

Prophesy, Battle of Gog & Magog

Our pastor started a new series on prophesy.
As our dangerous world swirls around us we have the Bible that comforts and explains what is going to happen.
Prophesy can be difficult to understand and this series will enlighten you.
I beg you to watch this 45 minutes sermon. It starts out slow with explanation but gets very exciting as it moves forward.
Enjoy & blessings,

Your will be done!

God's will is probably one of the most important things to find for your
life, and yet, many find it difficult to say the words in *Matt 6:9...Our
Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come, Your
will be done On earth as it is in heaven.* Many people are looking for
relationships, money, fame, or planning for their future. For the believer,
we must understand that this life is passing by, and it seems to me that it
is passing by quicker everyday. We were bought with a price as it is
written in *Acts 20:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the
Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God,
and that you are not your own [property]? 20 You were bought with a price
[you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His
own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body.* We are called to
something different than the rest of the world. We are called to testify of
the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone we come in contact with and we
are to live our lives unto the Lord Jesus and not to ourselves. *Acts 20:24
But I do not consider my life as something of value or dear to me, so that
I may [with joy] finish my course and the ministry which I received from
the Lord Jesus, to testify faithfully of the good news of God’s [precious,
undeserved] grace [which makes us free of the guilt of sin and grants us
eternal life].* What will all of our accomplishments mean if there have
been souls lost that we could of helped along our journey. Charles Spurgeon
wrote, "I would sooner bring one sinner to Jesus Christ than unravel all
the mysteries of the divine Word, for salvation is the one thing we are to
live for". To say to God, Your will be done, is easier than actually doing
it. Dear heavenly Father, please help us, Your children, surrender our
lives, our will to You. Help us to honor and glorify You in all that we do.
Help us to stay focused on the race before us and fulfill the ministry that

You have entrusted to each of us. In Jesus name, amen

Corrupt. Genesis 6:11-13 NLT

Now let's look at the corruption part.

Corrupt: evil or morally depraved:

synonyms:  immoral ·  depraved ·  degenerate ·  reprobate ·  vice ridden ·  perverted ·  debauched ·  dissolute ·  dissipated ·  bad ·  wicked ·  evil ·  base ·
sinful ·  ungodly ·  unholy ·  irreligious ·  profane ·  impious ·  impure ·  warped

Everyone on earth was corrupt. Everyone except Noah. Can you imagine? As bad as we think things are today, it was so much worse. And we wonder, how bad will society get before God once again says "Enough!" I guess it can get a whole lot worse.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a society where everyone is corrupt. I don't want to be part of that fallen world. I don't want to live separated from God. I want to be like Noah. When God decides "Enough!" I want to be one of the people He finds favor in and says "Follow Me".

I want to follow Jesus now so when God has had enough, I can follow Him out of this corrupt world.

Genesis 6:11-13 NLT

11 Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence.  12 God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt.  13 So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!

Blessings, Cecilia

Some Kind Of Faith. Genesis 6:9-22 NLT

We've all heard the story of Noah. We all know God told Noah to build the ark to save himself and his family from the judgment to come. We all know the world had become extremely corrupt at that point. And we know that Noah was the only one who was not corrupt. We also know "Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him."

That must have been some kind of faith Noah had. While everyone else was going their own way, Noah was following God. For 500 years, Noah had remained faithful to God. He worshiped Him, he listened to Him, he followed Him. So, when God told Noah to build a very large box, fill it full of food and wait for the animals to come, Noah did it. No questions asked, no stuttering, no stammering, just "Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him."

That's some kind of faith. Oh, to have faith like that.

Genesis 6:9-22 NLT

The Story of Noah

9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.  10 Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

14 “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. 15 Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.  16 Leave an 18-inch opening  below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper.

17 "Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die.  18 But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives.  19 Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood. 20 Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive.  21 And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.”

22 So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.

Blessings, Cecilia

1 Peter 4- Your reward awaits you!

18And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”d
19So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should entrust their souls to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

The ungodly and unrepentant sinners fate; Matthew 13:42 And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Cecilia and I have watched a movie which isn't biblically correct, but it has a scene from hell. The scene consists of a sea of heads all crammed against each other (representing their consciousness) and their are reliving their worst nightmares over and over and over again. FOREVER, weeping and gnashing of teeth!
Pray continually for your family, the
ungodly and the sinners.

We "should entrust their (our) souls to their (our) faithful Creator and continue to do good."
Better to suffer on earth than for eternity. Keep your faith in Jesus and hold on to His promise of eternal salvation.

Your reward awaits you in heaven!

Blessings, David

Why do you do what you do?

Why do you do what you do in service to the Lord, for the glory of man or
for the glory of God? There is a battle that goes on between my spirit and
my flesh at times, as to why I do what I do. There are also times I ask
myself "Why?", why am I doing something, does anybody else really care?
Then when I look into the Word, I see how I am to live. *Col 3:23 And
whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing
that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you
serve the Lord Christ.* I think of great men throughout the scriptures that
needed and gave encouragement as well. It says in *Joshua 22:5 But take
careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of
the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways,
to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all
your heart and with all your soul.”* and also in *1 Sam 12:24 Only fear the
Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great
things He has done for you.* God has and is doing great things for us
whether we see it or not. Charles Spurgeon wrote "It is only serving God
that is doing immortal work; it is only living for Christ that is living at
all".
Dear heavenly Father, please use me and all those who truly desire to bring
you glory. Show us how to take who we are, what we can do, and use it for a
greater purpose than ourselves. Help us to become who You want us to be and
not who we think we should be. Help us to live a life of service unto You
in all that with do and with "All" of our heart and soul. Help us to
glorify You in the good times and the bad. Help us to walk in purity of
mind, body and spirit. In Jesus precious and powerful name, amen.

1 Peter 4- Which fire are deserving of?

17For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

It is right for judgment to begin at the house of God. “There is equity in it; for Christians profess to be better than others, and so they ought to be. They say they are regenerate, so they ought to be regenerate. They say that they are a holy people, separated unto Christ; so they ought to be holy, and separate from sinners, as he was.” (Spurgeon)

Put away your sin and be separate from sinners as He was.
Judgement is coming, what will be your outcome?

Now is our time of fiery trial (1 Peter 4:12); the ungodly will have their fire later. The fire we endure now purifies us; the fire the ungodly will endure will punish them. Yet we always remember that there is never any punishment from God for us in our sufferings, only purification. (Guzik)

Fire purifies or fire punishes, which fire are deserving of?

I must be Holy for His sake!

There are many "believers" that are living their lives in a way that is
unpleasing to God. They are living their lives in a way that is not any
different from the rest of the world. They may have the appearance of
godliness on the outside, but on the inside, what they do when no one else
is watching, would bring shame to the Lord Jesus if it would be made known.
It says in *1 Peter 1:13 So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect,
morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine
favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.
14 [Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to
the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did
not know the requirements of the Gospel]. 15 But as the One Who called you
is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of
living. 16 For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy.* Charles
Spurgeon wrote, "If Christ has died for me - ungodly as I am, without
strength as I am - then I can no longer live in sin, but must arouse myself
to love and serve Him who has redeemed me. I cannot trifle with the evil
that killed my best Friend. I must be holy for His sake. How can I live in
sin when He has died to save me from it?" For all those that profess Jesus
as Lord and Savior that are actively engaging in sin and think there will
be no consequences, you are wrong, sin always has consequences, you can
choose your sin, but you cannot choose your consequences. I also ask you to
think, are the moments of pleasure worth the pain that the Lord Jesus
endured upon the cross?

Finding Favor. Genesis 6:3; 5-8 NLT

Until this morning, I believed Genesis 6:3 to mean God shortened mans life to no longer then 120 years. So what about people who have claimed to be over 120 years old? I believed they were mistaken. Lack of birth record's 120 years ago made that easy to believe.

After studying Genesis 6:3 this morning, I have a different understanding on what this means. Maybe some of you already understood this. The 120 years mentioned in Genesis 6:3 is an announcement from God on when the flood would happen.

So why were lifespan shortened after the flood? I saw this theory elsewhere yesterday but didn't expand on it.

From gotquestions.org

"Another consideration is that, in the first few generations after creation, the human genetic code had developed few defects.  Adam and Eve were created perfect. They were surely highly resistant to disease and illness. Their descendants would have inherited these advantages, albeit to lesser degrees. Over time, as a result of sin, the human genetic code became increasingly corrupted, and human beings became more and more susceptible to death and disease. This would also have resulted in drastically reduced lifespans."

Genesis 6:3; 5-8 NLT

A World Gone Wrong

3 Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”

5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.  6 So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke His heart.  7 And the LORD said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”  8 But Noah found favor with the LORD.

Old As Dirt! Genesis 5:3-17 in part; 18-32 NLT

How long do you want to live? 80? 90? 100+? I guess it would depend on the quality of life. How about hundreds of years?

Not too long ago, David and I watched a movie called "The Age of Adeline". It's about a women in an accident and as a result, she stops aging. The movie shows the loneliness she faces as a result. At the end of the movie, another accident begins the aging process again.

Before the flood, man lived hundreds of years. I believe  this to be true because the Bible tells us so. If you can believe God created the world out of nothing, if you can believe God created the world in seven literal days then why is it not possible for man to have lived close to 1000 years?

Genesis 5:3-17 in part; 18-32 NLT

The Descendants of Adam

3 When Adam was 130 years old

4 Adam lived another 800 years

5  Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.

6 When Seth was 105 years old

7 Seth lived another 807 years.

8 Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.

9 When Enosh was 90 years old

10 Enosh lived another 815 years

11Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.

12When Kenan was 70 years old

13 Kenan lived another 840 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

14 Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died.

15 When Mahalalel was 65 years old

16 Mahalalel lived another 830 years old

17 Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.

18 When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch.  19 After the birth of Enoch, Jared lived another 800 years, and he had other sons and daughters.  20 Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.

21When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. 23 Enoch lived 365 years,  24 walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.

25 When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech.  26 After the birth of Lamech, Methuselah lived another 782 years, and he had other sons and daughters.  27 Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.

28 When Lamech was 182 years old, he became the father of a son. 29 Lamech named his son Noah, for he said, “May he bring us relief from our work and the painful labor of farming this ground that the LORD has cursed.”  30 After the birth of Noah, Lamech lived another 595 years, and he had other sons and daughters.  31 Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died.

32 By the time Noah was 500 years old, he was the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

1 Peter 4- Does the Spirit of glory and of God rest on you?

14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.b 15Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler. 16But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear this name.c

Cecilia and I had friends, a husband and wife with three children. After we were born again and adopted I noticed a subtle change. He went from calling me by my first name to my last name. Life became very busy with the adoption and the needs of our son and we lost touch.
After we moved Cecilia found her Facebook page and messaged her. She blocked Cecilia.
I can only attribute this behavior because of his past insults about Christians that they were offended by our faith in Christ.

I am saddened that we suffered a lost friendship but gladdened and "blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you" (us).

Besides, we gained many new brothers and sisters in Christ and have many new friends. We especially enjoy our Life Group that we belong to and the friendships that were kindled in this group.

Does the Spirit of glory and of God rest on you?

1 Peter 4- Fiery Trials

Suffering as Christians
12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory.

One of my devotionals that I read this morning pointed out the we live in a fallen world with Satan as its ruler.
So, "do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you"...

One of my fiery trials is I sometimes feel overwhelmed because my inbox (jobs) is always full. I have so many things to do. Winter ❄️ is coming and time is short to get these jobs out of the inbox and into the delete box.
But when I check one off the inbox list I praise God for helping me to accomplish that job.

What fiery trials are you facing?
Health?
Work?
Relationships?
Survival in this fallen world?

Remember, we have "Job" as an example how to act during a trial!
"rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory."
If you are in a fiery trial and find it hard to praise God, pick up your bible and open it to the Book of Job.
Read it and follow his example!

Hindsight is 20/20

Hindsight is 20/20. Have you ever been in a situation and wondered what God
was doing? Why you were going through what you were, a problem marriage, a
challenging job, death of a loved one? Many times it is because God is
trying to get someones attention, and that someone may not be you. Paul and
Silas were in a very uncomfortable position, they had been beaten with rods
and put into stocks, and yet, they were praying and singing hymns to God.
*Acts16:24 He, having received such a [strict] command, threw them into the
inner prison (dungeon) and fastened their feet in the stocks [in an
agonizing position]. 25 But about midnight when Paul and Silas were praying
and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to
them 26 suddenly there was a great earthquake...* Other prisoners were
listening and then God shook their world. I can remember times, not at bad
as there's, but to me it was bad, that afterward, i saw "Why" I was where
God had me. Unbelievers who needed to know the Savior who loved them.
Brothers and sisters in Christ who needed to understand Holy Spirit's
purpose in their lives. The back sliden friends needed to learn what it is
to live right before God the Father. Brethren, remember that the teacher is
always quiet during the test. May we glorify and praise our God no matter
what we are going through. In Jesus name, amen.

A History Lesson. Genesis 4:17-24 NLT

Today I have included excerpts from David Guzik's teaching on this section of Genesis. Again, none of the commentary below is mine.

The Descendants of Cain

17a Cain had sexual relations with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch.

(Cain obviously married his sister. Though marrying a sister was against the law of God according to Leviticus 18:9, 18:11, 20:17, and Deuteronomy 27:22 (which even prohibits the marrying of a half-sister), this was long before God spoke that law to Moses and the world.

Even Abraham married his half-sister Sarah (Genesis 20:12). God did not prohibit such marriages until the time of Moses (Leviticus 18:9). Marrying a brother or sister was not forbidden until God forbade it.

Here, necessity demanded that Adam’s sons marry his daughters. And at this point, the gene pool of humanity was pure enough to allow close marriage without harm of inbreeding. But as a stream can get more polluted the further it flows from the source, there came a time when God decreed there no longer be marriage between close relatives because of the danger of inbreeding.)

17b Then Cain founded a city, which he named Enoch, after his son.

(Here we see the beginning of industry and of urbanization. From this beginning, it was strongly man-centered, not God-centered. The fall of the human race continued and even increased.)

18 Enoch had a son named Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.

(The name Lamech may mean, conqueror. He was the seventh from Adam on Cain’s side. Lamech's arrogance is a contrast to Enoch, who was the seventh from Adam on Seth’s line.)

19 Lamech married two women. The first was named Adah, and the second was Zillah.

(Lamech was the first bigamist in history, going against God’s original plan for one man and one woman to become one flesh.)

20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the first of those who raise livestock and live in tents.  21 His brother’s name was Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute.  22a Lamech’s other wife, Zillah, gave birth to a son named Tubal-cain. He became an expert in forging tools of bronze and iron.

(The picture is one of rapid advancement. Succeeding generations quickly made progress in areas such as the founding of a city,  home building, music and the arts and metalworking.)

22b Tubal-cain had a sister named Naamah.

(The names of his wives and daughter show the emphasis in his heart: Adah means, “pleasure, ornament, or beauty.” Zillah means, “shade” probably referring to a luxurious covering of hair. His daughter’s name was Naamah, which means, “loveliness.” Lamech’s culture was committed to physical and outward beauty.)

23 One day Lamech said to his wives,

“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; listen to me, you wives of Lamech. I have killed a man who attacked me, a young man who wounded me. 24 If someone who kills Cain is punished seven times, then the one who kills me will be punished seventy-seven times!”

(The way Lamech boasted about his murder of another, and the way he believed he could promise a greater retribution than God, shows a progressive degeneracy among humanity. Things quickly became worse with the human race, a true devolution.

This is all a representation of humanism, a man-centered perspective. The city was Cain’s city; the focus of Lamech was his beautiful wives and his own perceived strength. But for all of Lamech’s boasting, neither he nor his descendants are ever heard of again in the Bible. He came to nothing.)

If sinners be damned!

There are many people that read what I write that do not really know me or
anything about me. Some may remember me from Palo Verde high school and the
kind of person I was, and it was selfish and sinful. Some may have met me
through out my life and seen me when I was a drunk or on drugs. In 2000, at
the age of 36, I became a Christian. Some say that I have gone overboard.
My father once said that I went overboard on the alcohol and the drugs and
now I have gone overboard on that Jesus stuff too. He was absolutely
correct. Shortly before my father died I witnessed him become a "Born Again
Christian". I take the words of my Lord seriously, *Mark16:15 And He said
to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news
(the Gospel) to every creature [of the whole human race].* The great
commission is not a suggestion. If hell is as bad as the bible says it is,
no Christian should be silent and let someone go without a fight. Charles
Spurgeon wrote “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over
our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped
about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it
be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and
unprayed for.” I would rather someone be upset with me for telling them
that Jesus loves them, than to have a peaceful relationship in silence and
let them go to hell. There is a change coming to our world. I am not trying
to be an alarmist or a survivalist, I want to be a REVIVALIST. I try to
live my life in the way the Lord Jesus spoke, *Mark 12:30 And you shall
love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with
all your soul (your life) and out of and with all your mind (with your
faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all
your strength. This is the first and principal commandment.* There are many
days that I fail to achieve this, thank God for His grace. Maranatha, come

quickly Lord Jesus.
