What Divides Us Matthew 16:1-4 NLT

What divides your family? Politics, religion, gossip, money, in-laws, out-laws, children, someone's behavior or someone just mis speaks. Before you know it there's opposition and it doesn't come back together for a while, if at all.
What brings divided people back together again? Usually an illness, injury or death. For the time it takes to get through the situation, we all get along again. We join force's for a cause even if it's just temporary.
The Pharisees and Sadducees where in opposition to each other.
"The Pharisees lived according to the smallest points of the oral and scribal law; the Sadducees received only the written words of the Hebrew Scriptures.
The Pharisees believed in angels and the resurrection; the Sadducees did not.
The Pharisees were not a political party and were prepared to live under any government that would leave them alone to practice their religion the way they wanted to; the Sadducees were aristocrats and collaborated with the Romans to keep their wealth and power.
The Pharisees looked for and longed for the Messiah; the Sadducees did not.
Yet for all these differences, Jesus brought them together. Not in a good way - they came together inopposition to Jesus, but they came together nonetheless."

Leaders Demand a Miraculous Sign
1 One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that He show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove His authority.
2 He replied, “You know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!  4 Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Then Jesus left them and went away.
