The Rest Of The Story. Matthew 11:25-30

When I worked at Gospel Rescue Mission the hour after lunch was nap time for the kids. Some of them really needed it, without that period of rest in the middle of the day, they could get rather crabby by dinner time. I remember one boy, after explaining that God rested, commands us to rest and so we must obey God and rest, gave our nap time a new name. As he entered the room after lunch he would say "Miss Cece, is it "The Seventh day?"
God tells us 71 times in the Old Testament and 12 times in the New Testament to rest. Rest is the English translation for the Hebrew word "Sabat" where we get the word Sabbath.
God rested. In Genesis 2:3 He states  "And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from all His work of creation."
God commands us to in Exodus 23:12“You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but on the seventh day you must stop working. This gives your ox and your donkey a chance to rest. It also allows your slaves and the foreigners living among you to be refreshed. "
And In Matthew 11:28 Jesus tells us where to find rest. Are you tired, worn out, feeling burdened? Lay them at Jesus's feet and experience His rest. It's a rest like no other.
Matthew 11:25-30 NLT
25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!
27 “My Father has entrusted everything to Me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.
