Foretold Destruction. Matthew 24:1-2 NLT

The temple in Jerusalem was a large, beautiful, impressive structure of stone, marble and gold. When the sun shone on it, it reflected the light making it glow. It would have been hard to look at because of it's splendor.

Herod the Great rebuilt the temple beginning in 19 b.c. It took 80 years to complete and was finished in a.d. 63. Just 7 years later, it was completely destroyed with not one stone left on the foundation.

As Jesus walked out of the temple that day, He knew He would not step foot in it again. He was getting closer to the cross. His mood was probably quiet and focused. He still had work to do but His time was short. The disciples were impressed with the structure and tried to lighten the mood by discussing the beauty of it.

Matthew 24:1- 2 NLT

Jesus Foretells the Future

1 As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, His disciples pointed out to Him the various Temple buildings. 2 But He responded, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
