Total Eclipse of the Son. Matthew 27:45-46 NLT

In a few days we will experience a total eclipse of the sun, depending on where you are in the world. Those along the path of the sun will see a total eclipse, the majority of us will see a partial eclipse. I do not plan on trying to view it. I think it's too risky.

The three hour period  from about noon to 3:00 p.m. on the day Jesus hung on the cross, the entire world experienced a total eclipse. Now, the Passover was held during a full moon. What I discovered researching eclipses is it's scientifically impossible to have a solar eclipse during a full moon. Eclipses happen in the new moon stage where the moon is not visible from the earth. In addition, solar eclipses don't last three hours. The actual black out period is under eight minutes.

Why had God forsaken Jesus? I've always found this disturbing. Scripture tells us way back in Deuteronomy 31:8 "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” God looked away because the sin laid upon Jesus was too foul to look at. God, being everything good, could not defile Himself with the sight. He had to look away. Yet, I don't believe God actually left Jesus hanging there all alone. His love was still there. In Isaiah 42:1 God said  "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” The plan was still in place. Jesus would die and rise in three days. Jesus would ascend to Heaven in Forty days. Jesus would take His place of honor at Gods right hand.

Matthew 27:45-46 NLT

The Death of Jesus

45 At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 46 At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,  lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have You abandoned Me?”
