One Drop of Blood. Matthew 27:27-31 NLT

Matthew gives us a glossed over version of the torture Jesus endured. The cat of nine tails is not mentioned. The striking with a reed seems mundane. If you've seen the movie "The Passion" it most accurately portrays what Jesus went through. Most accurately, but still not as bad as the torture truly was.

Would you have participated in the torture? Would you have ground the crown of thorns into His skull? Would you have swung the cat of nine tails and ripped the flesh from His body? Would you have swung the reed that damaged organs and bruised bone and flesh?

To illustrate what Christ did for us I once told my son "Every time you sin, that's another drop of blood Christ shed on the cross". The same applies to you. The same applies to me.

Matthew 27:27-31 NLT

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

27 Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters and called out the entire regiment.  28 They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.  29 They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on His head, and they placed a reed stick in His right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before Him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!”  30 And they spit on Him and grabbed the stick and struck Him on the head with it.  31 When they were finally tired of mocking Him, they took off the robe and put His own clothes on Him again. Then they led Him away to be crucified.
