Slip and Fall. Matthew 26:69-75 NLT

Just because we are saved doesn't mean we don't sin. We all slip but we don't all fall. We keep short accounts with God. We learn from past mistakes. We move on better and stronger.

Backsliding, also known as falling away, is a term used within Christianity to describe a process by which an individual who has converted to Christianity reverts to pre-conversion habits and/or lapses or falls into sin, when a person turns from God to pursue their own desire. Wikipedia

If you've been slipping more and repenting less, if you think you're getting away with sin so it must be okay, if you've ignored that nudge of the Holy Spirit that convicts us when we slip, you are headed for a fall. Stop, repent and be restored.

Jesus warned Peter he would slip. Jesus told Peter he would be restored. And he was. After denying he knew Jesus three times, Peter wept bitterly. That's repentance. It humbled Peter so God could use Him. And He did, in mighty ways.

Luke 22:31-32 NLT

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

Matthew 26:69-75 NLT

Peter Denies Jesus

69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him, “You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.”

70 But Peter denied it in front of everyone. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.

71 Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

72 Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. “I don’t even know the Man,” he said.

73 A little later some of the other bystanders came over to Peter and said, “You must be one of them; we can tell by your Galilean accent.”

74 Peter swore, “A curse on me if I’m lying—I don’t know the Man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.

75 Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know Me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.
