2 Corinthians 13 Is the power of God directed towards you?

Examine Yourselves

      1This is the third time I am coming to you. EVERY FACT IS TO BE CONFIRMED BY THE TESTIMONY OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES. 2I have previously said when present the second time, and though now absent I say in advance to those who have sinned in the past and to all the rest as well, that if I come again I will not spare anyone, 3since you are seeking for proof of the Christ who speaks in me, and who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you.4For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.

Paul was going to visit them again and was quoting a Jewish axiom to them from the Old Testament which was also quoted in
Matthew 18:6
But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'

In verse two Paul is going to pass judgment on the false prophets in the church of Corinth and excommunicate them and deliver them to Satan. If I were on the receiving end I believe I would rather get on my knees and repent! Wouldn't you?

In verse three Christ's love bears long towards sinners, and "yet he will not bear always; at length he will come, and will not spare those who remain obstinate and impenitent." Quote from Matthew Henry commentary.

Barnes Notes;
"They had called in question his apostolic authority; they had demanded the evidence of his divine commission. He says that he would now furnish such evidence by inflicting just punishment on all offenders, and they should have abundant proof that Christ spoke by him, or that he was inspired."

Jesus seemed weak to his enemies , He did not use His powers to protect His life but offered it up willingly.
What about you? Do you offer your life willingly to Jesus Christ? If you do you will live because of The power of God directed toward you!

Blessings David
