The Perfect High Priest
(Psalm 110:1-7)
1Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is beset by weakness. 3That is why he is obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
4No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. 5So also Christ did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a high priest, but He was called by the One who said to Him:
“You are My Son,
today I have become Your Father.”a
6And in another passage God says:
“You are a priest forever
in the order of Melchizedek.”b
God had a calling for the high priest, He set the order who would serve.
"The priesthood itself came through Aaron, the brother of Moses, of the family of Kohath. Aaron’s family and their descendants made up the priests and the high priest, those able to serve in the tabernacle itself and to offer sacrifice to God." Guzik
Jesus was the perfect high priest, the perfect sacrifice for sins who gave His life and blood for all. He was the final sacrifice and upon His resurrection He assumed the role of high priest. This is an important contrast because all high priests that descended from Aaron, none of them resurrected from the dead.
Jesus became the perfect high priest forever.
Take your sins to the forever high priest, Jesus. He is the only one that can forgive them because He is the perfect high priest, the perfect sacrifice for your sins.
Blessings, David
