Hebrews 1
Berean Study Bible
The Supremacy of the Son
(Colossians 1:15-23)
1On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. 2But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.
3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 4So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
My wife tells me the bible says the man (husband) is suppose to make the coffee. "Hebrews" is her unequivocal charge that HE Brews the coffee!
Joking aside, Jesus fulfilled prophecy, He was our Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world.
Guzik says: (excerpts from his commentary)
a. God: The Book of Hebrews begins with no mention of the author, only of God. The human author of Hebrews remains unknown, but the book's inspiration by the Holy Spirit is evident.
i. The earliest statement on the authorship of Hebrews is from Clement of Alexandria, who said that Paul wrote it in Hebrew and Luke translated into Greek (Eusebius, History 6.14.2).
ii. However, many other commentators believe it is unlikely that Paul wrote this book.
iv. The early commentator Tertullian (who wrote in the early 200s) said Barnabas wrote Hebrews, but he offered no support for this statement other than that Barnabas was a Levite (Acts 4:36) and a man of encouragement (Acts 4:36).
v. Martin Luther believed that Apollos wrote the Book of Hebrews because Acts tells us Apollos was eloquent and had a strong command of the Old Testament (Acts 18:24).
vi. German theologian Adolf Harnack thought Priscilla (with her husband Aquilla) wrote Hebrews, and it remained anonymous to hide its controversial female authorship. But when the writer to the Hebrews writes of himself in Hebrews 11:32, the masculine grammar of the passage argues against the idea that a woman wrote the letter.
vii. No matter who the human author of Hebrews is, there are indications that it was written fairly early in the New Testament period, probably somewhere around 67 to 69 AD. The reference to Timothy (Hebrews 13:23) places it fairly early.
2. (2b-3) A sevenfold description of the glorious Son.
a. Heir of all things
b. He made the worlds
c. The brightness of His glory
d. The express image of His person:
e. Upholding all things by the word of His power
f. Himself purged our sins
g. Sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
3. (4) Therefore, Jesus is so much better than the angels.

Jesus was far superior to the angels because He was the Son of God. God elevated Jesus because of what Jesus did for us. Out of love for the Father and compassion for us He suffered and died and rose from the dead on the third day.
Jesus purged our sins.
Will you allow Him to purge your sins?
Blessings, David
