Hebrews 2
Berean Study Bible
Salvation Confirmed
1We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?
This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4and was affirmed by God through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.
Last week at Life Group our host asked if anyone has seen the movie Unbroken. Cecilia and I commented we had just watched it. He then loaned us the documentary,
Louis Zamperini Captured By Grace produced by Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
It was a short story about Louis Zamperini, the Olympic Athlete, prisoner of war, WW2 hero, husband and father, alcoholic who lost everything, who's wife dragged him kicking and screaming into a Billy Graham tent revival. He ran out of the tent on the first visit only to be dragged into again the second day of the revival in a last ditch effort to save his marriage from divorce.
He had made a promise to serve God while drifting away in the Pacific Ocean in a life raft. He forgot about his promise.
That second day of the Billy Graham revival his salvation was confirmed. With salvation the Holy Spirit used him mightily.
Louis then remembered his promise to God!
He went back to Japan, the place that gave him nightmares, the location of his physical pain and torment that almost took his life, the cause of his drinking. He visited the prison of the war criminals, his WW2 captors. He preached forgiveness to them, then forgave them and was set free. He then brought over 50% of those war criminals to Christ!
He returned home to start a wayward boys ministry for troubled young teens. He mentored to the troubled teens using his athletic abilities teaching them sports and about Jesus. He returned to many Billy Graham revivals to demonstrate his confirmed salvation to the crowds.
Are you paying attention to what you have heard so that you don't drift away?
God with His gifts may use YOU as a sign and wonder as He did Louis Zamperini.
After all isn't your salvation a sign and wonder to those who knew you before you knew Christ?
