2 John 1-Grace, Mercy and Peace!

2 John 1
Greeting from the Elder

1The elder,
To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I alone, but also all who know the truth— 2because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:
3Grace, mercy, and peace be with us in truth and love from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father.

“John the apostle, who was now a very old man, generally supposed to be about ninety, and therefore uses the term presbyter or elder, not as the name of an office, but as designating his advanced age. He is allowed to have been the oldest of all the apostles, and to have been the only one who died a natural death.” (Clarke)

Stott, believes the lady is a local church and her children the members.
But Poole believes it was some noted person.
Guzik says the letter was written during a time of persecution and if the person was named they would have been sought out and persecuted.

Is our society nearing a time of persecution? Christians are ridiculed, freedom of speech is being suppressed and our government is becoming godless.
Please pray for our country and the persecuted Christians around the world.

I pray that you have “Grace, mercy, and peace be with us in truth and love”!

Blessings, David
