Leviticus 10:8-10 Not to drink wine or strong drink!

8Then the LORD said to Aaron, 9“You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink when you enter the Tent of Meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute for the generations to come. 10You must distinguish between the holy and the common, between the clean and the unclean,

“This new paragraph begins with the common formulaic expression for the Lord’s revelation in Leviticus, this time with the recipient being Aaron instead of Moses. This is in fact is the only occurrence in Leviticus where Aaron is directly spoken to by the Lord.” (Rooker)

When we read scripture it needs to be in context and we can’t cherry pic a sentence to give it an out of context meaning.

At the beginning of this chapter Nadab and Abihu were struck down with fire for unauthorized worship and here the Lord speaks directly to Aaron about drinking alcohol.

Could it be Nadab and Abihu we’re drunk when the Lord stuck them with fire?

It’s a possibility, but the exact reason isn’t given.

“Nothing has more power to blur the sharpness of moral and religious insight than even a small amount of alcohol. God must be worshipped with clear brain and naturally beating heart…. Lips stained from the wine-cup would not be fit to speak holy words. Words spoken by such would carry no power.” (Maclaren)

Maclaren says “Words spoken by such would carry no power.”

The power of the Holy Spirit would NOT speak through a blurred mind.

1 Timothy 3 1This is a trustworthy saying: If anyone aspires to be an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, a temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not dependent on wine, not violent but gentle, peaceable, and free of the love of money.

8Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued or given to much wine or greedy for money. 9They must hold to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10Additionally, they must first be tested. Then, if they are above reproach, let them serve as deacons.

Alcohol has enslaved many. If you or someone you know is addicted to alcohol, lift them up to the Lord, only He can remove the chains of addiction.

Lord I lift those up to you that are reading this and have an addiction or know someone who does. Please remove the desire of that addiction and take away the chains, heal their body, mind and soul. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Blessings, David
