Exodus 2:15-22 A stranger in a strange land.

15When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, where he sat down beside a well.
16Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw water and fill the troughs to water their father’s flock. 17And when some shepherds came along and drove them away, Moses stood up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.
18When the daughters returned to their father Reuel, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early today?”
19“An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds,” they replied. “He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
20“So where is he?” their father asked. “Why did you leave the man behind? Invite him to have something to eat.”
21Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage. 22And she gave birth to a son whom he named Gershom, for he said, “I have become a stranger in a strange land.”

But Moses fled from Pharaoh..... and Moses felt defeated. How could he deliver his people now? God had him right where He wanted him. We need to be broken before God can fully use us.

For forty years the preparation of Moses took place but it will take longer to break the man to be useful for His purpose and it will take years for the Hebrews to be willing to act Moses as their deliverer.

16Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters,” these were likely descendants of Abraham. And the priest was likely a priest of the One true a God.
“God led Moses to this specific family at this specific time.” Guzik
Genesis 25:1Now Abraham had taken another wife, named Keturah, 2and she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Zipporah: “We might translate as ‘warbler’ or, less kindly, ‘twitterer’; it is the name of a small bird.” (Cole)
Gershom: This name – meaning “stranger”. “I have become a stranger in a strange land.”

“Much he had learned in Egypt, but more in Midian.” (Trapp)
Moses learned how to be somebody in Egypt, but nobody in Midian.

Like Moses we need to learn to be nobody before God can use us.

Are you a somebody or a nobody?

Blessings, David
