Genesis 21:1-8 He will laugh!

The Birth of Isaac
1Now the LORD attended to Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what He had promised. 2So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.
3And Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore to him. 4When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him. 5Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6Then Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears of this will laugh with me.” 7She added, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
8So the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham held a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

God waited 25 years to fulfill the Promise. And Abraham named his son Isaac just as God commanded. His name means “he will laugh”, Sarah laughed at the thought of giving birth in her old age and God turned it into a gentle rebuke. “Then Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears of this will laugh with me.”
God does have a sense of humor!

Scholars believe Isaac was weaned the the age of three.

What can we learn from these verses? Gods timing is not our timing and He has a sense of humor. Cecilia likes to follow the “clean joke of the day”. Our local Christian radio station plays them and the ones I enjoy the most are the ones that the children tell with their laughter at the punchline.

He will laugh and you should too!

Blessings, David
