Lot Welcomes the Angels
1The two angels entered Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them, bowed with his face to the ground, 2and said, “My lords, please turn aside into the house of your servant; wash your feet and spend the night. Then you can rise early and go on your way.”
“No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”
3But Lot insisted so strongly that they followed him into his house. He prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
Lot went from looking towards the city, to pitching his tent near the city, to living in the city. Compromising does that to us, compromise destroyed Lots testimony.
Lot was sitting at the gate and was most likely a civic leader when the two men appeared, he had no reason to believe they were angels, yet!
“But Lot insisted so strongly”, he knew what would bestow the strangers in the city of sexual sin. Homosexuality and sexual perversion.
The Bible is clear....
Romans 1:26–28 (NKJV)
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, …
Lot thought the two men would be safe in his home and the two men will witness the sin of Sodom.
We have a city in our country that advertises, Las Vegas, Sin City, what happens here stays here.
