5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
These are important qualities of "maturity" of a Christian. I pray you will become effective in them so you can be productive for His kingdom.
The other night we watched a movie "The Case for Christ". It was about a family who were atheists. He was a news journalist. An event happened where their daughter almost choked to death but a nurse was at the restaurant who saved their daughter. The nurse commented that they were going to another restaurant but God told her to go to this one instead.
Long story short, the mother came to Christ, the husband got upset and attempted to prove Jesus was a myth. He didn't want to believe his research and was "nearsighted to the point of blindness" but finally came to Christ. His editor wouldn't let him do an article on "the case for Christ" so he wrote a book.
The journalist is now a pastor. He matured as a Christian and became effective and productive for the kingdom.
Don't be "nearsighted to the point of blindness".
Work on your traits!
Blessings, David
