The Lion, The Ox and The Eagle.

I found a lot of information on Angels while researching this verse.  I never noticed it before but did you know ever time an Angel appears in human form in the Bible it’s as a man? Michael is the only “Arch” Angel mentioned in scripture. Michael is the warrior Angel. There are at least three other  types of angels; cherubim, seraphim and the four living creatures.

I’ll start with the Seraphim which means "burning or fiery". They are only mentioned in Isaiah 6:1 - 3. These angels were created to praise God and as a communicator between God and humans. Not much else is known about them.

Cherubim are the angels mentioned in Scripture that protected the tree of life after Adam and Eve sinned in The Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24). The Mercy Seat on The Ark of the Covenant was built with two Cherubs stretching their wings over it (Exodus 25:20, 22, 37:7 - 9). Images of the cherubim were woven into the blue, purple and scarlet curtains used in Israel's wilderness tabernacle (Exodus 26:1, 31, 36:8, 35). In Ezekiel's vision of a great "wheel in the middle of a wheel" representing God’s Throne Room four cherubim appeared. Each of these angels had four faces. If you really want something to “freak out” about, read Ezekiel 1 and 10. That’s a whole separate study!

Lastly we have the "four living creatures” only mentioned Revelation 4:7-8.

The first living creature was like a lion, the second like a calf, the third had a face like a man, and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. And each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around and within. Day and night they never stop saying:

“Holy, Holy, Holy,

is the Lord God Almighty,

who was and is and is to come!”

Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these He has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

In His Name
