Merrimack-Webster defines Mercy as “compassion shown especially to an offender; lenient or compassionate treatment; imprisonment rather than death; a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion; a fortunate circumstance; compassionate treatment of those in distress”.
But I don’t think that even scratches the surface of what Gods mercy is. Gods mercy is an indescribable blessing. It’s Christ dying on the cross for our sins. We deserve condemnation. We live a sin filled life. We deserve eternity separated from God. Yet God made a way for us to spend eternity with Him in Heaven through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus died a cruel, tortured, humiliating death, the death we deserve. He did that so we wouldn’t have to. That’s mercy. That’s not getting what we deserve. That’s love. If God can show that kind of mercy to us, can’t we show even a portion of that kind of mercy to others?
Jude 1:22-23
22And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. 23Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.
