Revelation 2-What will your new name be?

To the Church in Pergamum
12To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:
These are the words of the One who has the sharp, double-edged sword.
13I know where you live, where the throne of Satan sits. Yet you have held on to My name and have not denied your faith in Me, even in the day My faithful witness Antipas was killed among you, where Satan dwells.
14But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block before the Israelites so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality. 15In the same way, some of you also hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16Therefore repent! Otherwise I will come to you shortly and wage war against them with the sword of My mouth.
17He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.

A sharp double edged sword speaks of the word of God. He will use His word to judge all, just as Jesus used His word against the devil.
This church stands firm and doesn’t deny their faith in Jesus as its evident in the martyrdom of Antipas.

But, the teaching of Balaam led to sexual immorality and “some of you also hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans”.
Satan uses sexual immorality to draw the children of God away from Him.
“Sexual immorality marked the whole culture of the ancient Roman Empire. It was simply taken for granted, and the person who lived by Biblical standards of purity was considered strange.” (Guzik)

Do you have a sexual immorality issue? Stop it! Porn? Get rid of the internet!
Guard your children and use blocking programs. Don’t let them go to the library! Are you aware they have “unbridled” internet access? We found out too late with our son!

Jesus was telling the Church in Pergamum to repent!

Hear the Spirit and repent!
The white stone with an inscription was significant in their day.
“had a white stone given to them, with their name inscribed on it; which badge entitled them, during their whole life, to be maintained at the pubic expense” (Clarke)

Jesus said, “I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.” This is your assurance of your destination, your reservation, a new name for being one of His children.

What will your new name be?

Blessings, David
