Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden but God didn't. God didn't leave Adam and Eve either, He was still available to them. They could still go near the Garden to worship God. They just couldn't enjoy the luxury and ease of the Garden anymore. The Garden of Eden became the first Tabernacle, the Holy of Holies, just like the first Tabernacle built by Moses in Exodus 40.
We often think the cherubim was placed at the entrance of the Garden to keep Adam and Eve out. Any of God's regular angels could have done that. No, the cherubim and the flaming sword were placed there to keep Satan out.
Because of Jesus, we don't have to go to a Tabernacle to be near God. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior our body becomes His Tabernacle. When we pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, He takes up residence in us. We too can have a flaming sword to keep Satan out of our life, the Word of God in our hearts, our Holy of Holies.
Genesis 3:22-24 NLT
22 Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” 23 So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and He sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. 24 After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And He placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
