Acts 23: 23-35 Are You A Whitewashed Tomb?

Paul Moved to Caesarea

23And he called to him two of the centurions and said, “Get two hundred soldiers ready by the third hour of the night to proceed to Caesarea, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen.” 24They were also to provide mounts to put Paul on and bring him safely to Felix the governor. 25And he wrote a letter having this form:

26“Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor Felix, greetings.

27“When this man was arrested by the Jews and was about to be slain by them, I came up to them with the troops and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman.
28“And wanting to ascertain the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their Council;
29and I found him to be accused over questions about their Law, but under no accusation deserving death or imprisonment.
30“When I was informed that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, also instructing his accusers to bring charges against him before you.”
31So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32But the next day, leaving the horsemen to go on with him, they returned to the barracks. 33When these had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him. 34When he had read it, he asked from what province he was, and when he learned that he was from Cilicia, 35he said, “I will give you a hearing after your accusers arrive also,” giving orders for him to be kept in Herod’s Praetorium.

The Jewish leaders were desperate, they wanted to put an end to the Way. They wanted to put an end to Paul because they viewed him as a traitor.

Proverbs 6: 16There are six things the LORD hates—
no, seven things he detests:
17haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent,
18a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

How could it be that the Jewish leaders, who knew the Old Testament would violate the Law? Because they had written ordinances upon them making them impossible to keep. They twisted the Law to their liking. Jesus called them white washed tombs!   Dead inside, washed and painted white outside to appear clean.

Matthew 23:27 "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.

This is why Jesus came, to complete the Law as man perverted the Law and by doing so separated himself from God.

Are you separated from God? Are you whitewashed outside but have hidden sin inside? Confess your sin, pray for forgiveness, and start fresh with Jesus.
Do you ask, will He forgive me? He forgave Paul of murder, He forgave David of murder and adultery.
Yes, I believe He will forgive you.

Dear Heavenly Father I ask that you help us turn from our sin, wash our whitewashed bodies, breath life into our dead bones so we can start fresh with Jesus. Keep us from becoming like those seeking to kill Paul.
In Jesus name I pray.

Blessings, David
