Judges 12:11-15 Elon and Abdon

11After Ibzan, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel ten years. 12Then Elon the Zebulunite died, and he was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13After Elon, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, judged Israel. 14He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. And he judged Israel eight years. 15Then Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, died, and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

Elon the Zebulunite: He was next in a succession of briefly-reigning judges. He is also from a different tribe from the past few judges from before him. God called leaders from various tribes, instead of from one tribe only.” (Guzik)

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy young donkeys: This was a demonstration of the wealth, prestige, and influence of this briefly-reigning judge.” (Guzik)

Pirathon was the birth-place of David’s captain, Benaiah (2 Samuel 23:301 Chronicles 11:3127:14).” (Cundall)

In the mountains of the Amalekites: These were the same Amalekites that God had put a curse upon for their treatment of the weakest and most vulnerable in the wilderness wanderings out of Egypt (Exodus 17:8-13Deuteronomy 25:17-191 Samuel 15:2-3).” (Guzik)

Some history in the Bible can seem boring but God placed it there for a reason.

Do you believe the Bible is the inspired word of God?

Next up is Samson! ðŸ˜³
