Joshua 11:21-23 Battles

21At that time Joshua proceeded to eliminate the Anakim from the hill country of Hebron, Debir, and Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction, along with their cities. 22No Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites; only in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod did any survive.

23So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to the allotments to their tribes. Then the land had rest from war.

Battles

“Here, the foes of 40 years ago fall. They were no match for an army that was blessed and directed by God.

Significantly, Israel faced the Anakim last, only after God had trained them in battle and in working with Him through the months of conquest.” (Guzik)

“Much territory was yet to be possessed, but it was left to each tribe to possess what potentially it had received through the conquest of the whole people in which it had taken part. Each tribe was to apply individually the lessons it had learned in united war if it was to possess its inheritance. That the tribes failed to do so was not a reflection on the power of God, but on the failure to take for themselves what Joshua had given and allotted to each one of them.” (Redpath)

Our battles for Christ are no different. He conquered the land and defeated the foe but it’s up to us to faithfully gain what is ours starting with the small battles in our lives and as we mature in faith we are able to fight our Anakim’s, our Goliath’s.

We give Him all the glory, in the name of Jesus!

Blessings
