A New Heaven and a New Earth

1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,a for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:

“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will live with them.

They will be His people,

and God Himself will be with them as their God.

There are three heaven’s in the Bible. 

The first heaven is the blue sky.

The second heaven is the stars, outer space.

The third heaven is where God dwells.

“a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away”.

God wants to start fresh, and give us a holy city, a new Jerusalem. The only way to do that is to get rid of the corruption, the sinful world.

So,

God creates a new heaven and earth with no more sea.

And,

“I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,”.

“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man,

and He will live with them”. 

A new holy city!

God is going to restore what was lost in the fall, companionship with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

“I do not think the glory of Eden lay in its grassy walks, or in the boughs bending with luscious fruit-but its glory lay in this, that the ‘Lord God walked in the garden in the cool of the day.’ Here was Adam’s highest privilege, that he had companionship with the Most High.” (Spurgeon)
