Acts 17:16-21 Are you an idle babbler?

Paul at Athens

16Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols. 17So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present. 18And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some were saying, “What would this idle babbler wish to say?” Others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities,”—because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection. 19And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is which you are proclaiming? 20“For you are bringing some strange things to our ears; so we want to know what these things mean.” 21(Now all the Athenians and the strangers visiting there used to spend their time in nothing other than telling or hearing something new.)

"his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols."
Is your spirit provoked within you as you observe your city full of idols?
What are idols?
An idol is an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed or any person or thing regarded with …
An idol can also be material things keeping you from worshiping God. It can be that house you're chasing, a car, a phone or any material thing you are obsessed over.

"17So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles,"
Has anyone reasoned with you concerning your idols and salvation through Jesus Christ?

Some were saying, “What would this idle babbler wish to say?”
Babbler definition; talk rapidly and continuously in a foolish, excited, or incomprehensible way.
When we preach the Gospel we must do it in a structured precise way. But some with evil in their heart will still consider you to be a babbler. Remember that God loves them too and pray for them.

"For you are bringing some strange things to our ears; so we want to know what these things mean.”
Pray that the Holy Spirit opens their ears and gives you the words to speak.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you open the ears and minds of those you want the Good News of Salvation to reach through Jesus Christ Your Son. Give use the words to speak and the love of Your heart so we don't come across as a babbler, in Jesus name I pray.

Blessings, David
