Acts 14:19-28 Stoned for Jesus

Acts 14:19-28 Stoned for Jesus

19But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having won over the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. 20But while the disciples stood around him, he got up and entered the city. The next day he went away with Barnabas to Derbe. 21After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” 23When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

24They passed through Pisidia and came into Pamphylia. 25When they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26From there they sailed to Antioch, from which they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had accomplished. 27When they had arrived and gathered the church together, they began to report all things that God had done with them and how He had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28And they spent a long time with the disciples.

"they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead."
Paul got stoned for Jesus. Not by the weed but by rocks! They wanted to kill him. He WAS a devout Jew but Jesus blinded him and through grace and salvation he became an apostle for Jesus. So the Jews viewed him as a traitor of their faith and they were jealous of the crowds they were converting to Christianity.
Are you viewed as a traitor by the world for becoming a Jesus freak?

"20But while the disciples stood around him, he got up and entered the city."
Jesus wasn't through with Paul. He had a purpose for Him and it wasn't completed. Paul got right up and went right back to the Lords work.
What about you? When the world stones you and knocks you down, do you hold fast to your faith in Jesus and get back up and continue to serve Him?

"21After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples,"
Do you preach the gospel to this lost and dying world?

"22strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith"
Strengthening the souls in Jesus is what our mission is about, encouraging them to continue in the faith. By doing so you will earn a crown of glory from Jesus.

"23When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed."
Elders have an important role in the church, keeping the biblical word of God true, the doctrine alive, without compromising the word of God.
Does your church teach from the bible? If not, remember this phrase; if you can't change your church, change churches! Find one that teaches from the bible and that is true to the word of God.

"they began to report all things that God had done with them and how He had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles."
God had brought Gentiles to faith, He opened the door to them.
He opened the door to you also. Do you feel empty? Have you sought all the things in this world through drugs, alcohol, companionship and sex but still aren't satisfied?
You can start all over, new and refreshed. How? Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Start by saying this prayer.
Jesus, I am sorry for my sinful past.
I believe you are the Son of God, that you were born of a virgin. You suffered and died on the cross taking the punishment for my sins.
In 3 days you rose from the dead.
I believe and love You. In Jesus name I pray.
If you said this prayer, your soul was set free. Your name is written in the Lambs Book of Life. You will not die a second death, that is your soul will not be condemned to an eternity in hell.
The Angels in heaven are rejoicing for you!

Blessings David
