The Third Seal: Famine
5And when the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!”
Then I looked and saw a black horse, and its rider held in his hand a pair of scales. 6And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not waste the oil and the wine.”
A time of famine and scarcity. A days wages for a loaf of bread.
“Implying that men should eat their bread by weight, and drink their water by measure, or that there should be a great scarcity. For when there is great plenty men do not think it worth their while to weigh and measure what they eat and drink; but when there is a famine or scarcity they are obliged to do it.” (Benson)
Black in the scriptures is the image of fear, famine and death.
Lam 5:10 The famine has blackened our skin as though baked in an oven.
How do you prepare for famine?
If we are in Christ Jesus we should have no fear of famine or death.
Blessings, David
