Deception. We've all been guilty of it at one time or another at some point in our life. It's part of the sin nature we are all born into. It could be something small like a harmless little white lie. It could be something major that ends with life changing consequences.
The only way to not be deceived about Jesus is to know the Bible. Read and reread, memorize and study. Don't just listen to the word, dig into it yourself. Where is your Bible? On a shelf collecting dust? What version is it? Is it King James? You probably wont read it, that's a difficult translation to understand. Find a version that is easy to read. I've used New King James, New Living Translation and New American Standard Bible to name a few. There are a lot of free downloadable resources available and they are easy to use. Most churches will give you a free Bible if you ask. Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, where David and I attend will mail you one if you call or request one online.
If you know the Bible, you will know Jesus. If you know Jesus you will not be deceived by false messiahs or false prophets.
Matthew 24:23-28 NLT
23 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There He is,’ don’t believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 25 See, I have warned you about this ahead of time. "
26 “So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, He is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! 27 For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. 28 Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near. "
