Numbers 14:33-35 Your Guilt

 33Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for forty years, and they will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness. 34In keeping with the forty days you spied out the land, you shall bear your guilt forty years—a year for each day—and you will experience My alienation.                                                                                                                    35 I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this entire wicked congregation, which has conspired against Me. They will meet their end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”

Your Guilt

Let’s face it, they saw many of His wonders but they still didn’t have faith because they were slave minded, a slave to sin.

You know the type because they are still with us today. He/She knows the truth about Jesus Christ but won’t yield to His promise of salvation and like the rich man, “you shall bear your guilt” because they are a slave to sin.

Will you bear your guilt or will you let Jesus bear it for you?

Adding to the Cross

Romans 7: 4Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. 5For when we lived according to the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, bearing fruit for death. 6But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Adding to the cross 

Why do people who have biblical knowledge add to the cross become unwise?

Because they are telling God that His Son wasn’t enough! His grace isn’t enough!

I once knew an elderly Christian man, his wife had died of cancer and he carried her through it faithfully.

Alone, a Judaizer had gotten ahold of him. You know the type, you must go to church on the Jewish sabbath to be truly saved. You must call the Lord Yahweh to be truly saved. You must obey this law or that law to be truly saved. Paul (Saul) being a Jew wrote many letters on the subject.

Please don’t arouse the anger of God by telling Him that His Son’s grace, death and resurrection wasn’t enough for salvation!

If a Judaizer try’s to convert you, I pray that your faith is strong enough in Christ to withstand their false doctrine!

Galatians 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the law, Christ died for nothing.

Numbers 14:26-32 Grumble and Complain

 26Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 27“How long will this wicked congregation grumble against Me? I have heard the complaints that the Israelites are making against Me. 28So tell them: As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you exactly as I heard you say. 29Your bodies will fall in this wilderness—all who were numbered in the census, everyone twenty years of age or older—because you have grumbled against Me. 

30Surely none of you will enter the land in which I swore to settle you, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. 31But I will bring your children, whom you said would become plunder, into the land you have rejected—and they will enjoy it. 32As for you, however, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.

Grumble and Complain 

Notice Moses and Aaron weren’t exempt! They will not enter the promised land for their own reasons. The Israelites grumbled and complained that they would die in the wilderness and the Lord granted them their wish! So be careful what you wish for!

In chapter 13 the spies 🕵️‍♀️ spent 40 days in the land of Canaan and for each day of the spy mission the Israelites will spend a year wandering the wilderness as their bodies fall!

That’s forty years! 

Their grumbling and complaints became the Lords command!

Do you grumble and complain against the Lord?

Numbers 14:25 Turn Around

    25Now since the Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the valleys, turn back tomorrow and head for the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.b”  BSB

25Now turn around, and don’t go on toward the land where the Amalekites and Canaanites live. Tomorrow you must set out for the wilderness in the direction of the Red Sea.b” NLT

Turn Around 

Sometimes it helps when we a studying Bible verses to examine other versions to grasp the translation. The Israelites were stubborn and lost faith so the Lord was turning them around and leading them back into the wilderness.

Our lives are no different. There are times we are fully trusting in the Lord and other times we are led away and fall back into the world and sin.

Colossians 3: 5Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. 

When this happens we need to turn around, stop sinning and go back to the Lord! 

What about you, do you need to turn around?

Numbers 14:24 A Different Spirit

 24But because My servant Caleb has a different spirit and has followed Me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he has entered, and his descendants will inherit it.

Numbers 32: 12not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun—because they did follow the LORD wholeheartedly.’

A Different Spirit 

Follow the Lord wholeheartedly! Caleb had a different spirit! What a compliment!

When we are born again and follow Jesus we have a different spirit than the ungodly, we have the Holy Spirit! It’s our love for Jesus that becomes a deep desire to follow Him wholeheartedly.

I want to be His light, I desire to have a different spirit so when people see me they think to themselves, I want what he has.

Will you be like Caleb, or the rest of the Israelites that will never see the promised land?

Numbers 14:20-23 Pardon Me

 20“I have pardoned them as you requested,” the LORD replied. 21“Yet as surely as I live and as surely as the whole earth is filled with the glory of the LORD, 22not one of the men who have seen My glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness—yet have tested Me and disobeyed Me these ten times— 23not one will ever see the land that I swore to give their fathers. None of those who have treated Me with contempt will see it.

Pardon Me

“We should pray as if life and death, heaven and hell, would be decided by our prayers!” (Guzik)

“Here’s pardon for transgressions past, It matters not how black their cast; And O my soul! With wonder view, For sins to come here’s pardon too.”

It is complete pardon that Jesus gives—for that which is to come, as well as for that which is past.

Numbers 14:17-19 “I Pray”

 17So now I pray, may the power of my Lord be magnified, just as You have declared: 18‘The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion,a forgiving iniquity and transgression. Yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished; He will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon their children to the third and fourth generation.’

19Pardon, I pray, the iniquity of this people, in keeping with the greatness of Your loving devotion, just as You have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.”

Do these verses sound familiar? 🤔 

These verses Moses recited was almost word for word that the Lord used to declare Himself to Moses in Exodus 34! 

Exodus 34: 6Then the LORD passed in front of Moses and called out:

“The LORD, the LORD God,

is compassionate and gracious,

slow to anger,

abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness,

7maintaining loving devotion to a thousand generations,

forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin.

Yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished;

He will visit the iniquity of the fathers

on their children and grandchildren

to the third and fourth generations.”

Let that be a lesson to us when we are being persecuted!
