Leviticus 5:14-19 Ignorance of the law!

14Then the LORD said to Moses, 15“If someone acts unfaithfully and sins unintentionally against any of the LORD’s holy things, he must bring his guilt offering to the LORD: an unblemished ram from the flock, of proper valueb in silver shekels according to the sanctuary shekel;c it is a guilt offering. 16Regarding any holy thing he has harmed, he must make restitution by adding a fifth of its value to it and giving it to the priest, who will make atonement on his behalf with the ram as a guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.
17If someone sins and violates any of the LORD’s commandments even though he was unaware, he is guilty and shall bear his punishment. 18He must bring to the priest an unblemished ram of proper value from the flock as a guilt offering. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the wrong he has committed in ignorance, and he will be forgiven. 19It is a guilt offering; he was certainly guiltyd before the LORD.”

“If, again, the guilt of an action depended entirely upon a man’s knowledge, we should have no fixed standard at all by which to judge right and wrong: it would be variable according to the enlightenment of each man, and there would be no ultimate and infallible court of appeal…. The art of forgetting would be diligently studied, and ignorance would become an enviable inheritance.” (Spurgeon)

“Ignorance of the law of God is itself a breach of law, since we are bidden to know and remember it.” (Spurgeon)

The other day we suspended our satellite service because we got tired of watching the same old reruns and the news is nothing but propaganda full of crime, rioting, looters, people tearing down statues of history, burning buildings and much more!

This earth is full of ignorant people sinning against the Lord!

We asked, why are we paying to watch this garbage?
Instead we read, play with our puppy or listen to pastors on Christian radio with the intent of drawing closer to the Lord.

What do you do in your spare time?

Leviticus 5:11-13 Fine Flour!

11But if he cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, he may bring a tenth of an ephah of fine floura as a sin offering. He must not put olive oil or frankincense on it, because it is a sin offering. 12He is to bring it to the priest, who shall take a handful from it as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar atop the offerings made by fire to the LORD; it is a sin offering. 13In this way the priest will make atonement for him for any of these sins he has committed, and he will be forgiven. The remainder will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”

11 a A tenth of an ephah is approximately 2 dry quarts or 2.2 liters (probably about 2.6 pounds or 1.2 kilograms of flour).

How much work did it take to make fine flour at the time these verses were written?
“In most early societies, men planted and harvested wheat while women milled and baked the resulting flour into bread”...

Israelites couldn’t go to the store and buy it. One possible source was traders.
My point is, even though wheat (fine flour) was one of the least expensive sin offerings it still was a valuable commodity.

The Lord Jesus Christ is my sin offering!
What is yours?

Leviticus 5:8-10 My sin offering!

8He is to bring them to the priest, who shall first present the one for the sin offering. He is to twist its head at the front of its neck without severing it; 9then he is to sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood is drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering. 10And the priest must prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the ordinance. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

Think of all the animals and birds offered for sins and burnt offerings! All the sins from all the sinners!
You have two choices in my opinion, you either have to keep the law and all its ordinances or accept Jesus Christ as your sin offering!

The law is impossible to keep! If anyone was successful would God have sent His only begotten Son?

Jesus is my sin offering, is He yours?

Leviticus 5:5-7 Two turtledoves or two young pigeons!

5If someone incurs guilt in one of these ways, he must confess the sin he has committed, 6and he must bring his guilt offering to the LORD for the sin he has committed: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. And the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin.
7If, however, he cannot afford a lamb, he may bring to the LORD as restitution for his sin two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering.

Luke 2: 24and to offer the sacrifice specified in the Law of the Lord: “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”d

We’ve all seen the Christmas manger scene with the three wisemen. Their gifts were gold, frankincense and myrrh. Verse 7 specifies “two turtledoves or two young pigeons” if they can’t afford a lamb. But in Luke 2:24 after Jesus’s birth, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus go to the temple, “Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to the Lord” and they offer a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.
Question: If they offered a pair of turtle doves or pigeons instead of a lamb what happened to the gold?
Answer: The three wisemen weren’t at the birth of Jesus. They came later. Possibly when Jesus was about three years old.

The Bible is infallible, it’s the written word of God written by chosen men guided by the Holy Spirit.
Do you believe that?

Leviticus 5:4 Yes or No?

4Or if someone swears thoughtlessly with his lips to do anything good or evil—in whatever matter a man may rashly pronounce an oath—even if he is unaware of it, when he realizes it, he is guilty in the matter.

“Or suppose you make a foolish vow of any kind, whether its purpose is for good or for bad. When you realize its foolishness, you must admit your guilt. NLT

Promises, promises!

Matthew 5: 34But I tell you not to swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35or by the earth, for it is His footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36Nor should you swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. 37Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ Anything more comes from the evil one.

James 5: 12Above all, my brothers, do not swear, not by heaven or earth or by any other oath. Simply let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment.

Jesus and James make it clear, no vows or oaths! Just say yes or no!

Have you ever made a vow or oath and broken it?

Leviticus 5:2-3 Unclean and Uncleanliness!

2Or if a person touches anything unclean—whether the carcass of any unclean wild animal or livestock or crawling creature—even if he is unaware of it, he is unclean and guilty.
3Or if he touches human uncleanness—anything by which one becomes unclean—even if he is unaware of it, when he realizes it, he is guilty.

Ceremonial unclean, the sin offering was a remedy for this uncleanliness.
The Lord has His reasons for the verses or they wouldn’t be in the Bible. Some of which may be for our own good, to protect our health.

Since childhood we’ve been taught to clean ourselves and to brush our teeth. We’ve been taught this for our own good, for our health. I remember one occasion on learning to brush my teeth, I was young and at the time no one was aware of ADHD or ADD. I was given a new toothbrush and a blue dye pill. The pill discolored my teeth and was a training technique to help you learn how to brush. Your teeth would turn blue and you had to brush until the discoloration disappeared.
Then I went to the dentist and he commented I wasn’t brushing correctly. I didn’t understand what he meant and he got frustrated and took his finger and rubbed the backside of my teeth like a toothbrush exclaiming, “like this”!
It took that demonstration to help me understand how to brush my teeth. To have dental hygiene, to be clean and to have cleanliness!

The verses teach us, that we are physically unclean and we are ceremonial unclean and incur sin if we touch a carcass or unclean animals or creatures.

I’m happy my savior completed the law!
Are you?

Leviticus 5:1 Bear his guilt!

Now if a person sins after he hears a public adjuration to testify when he is a witness, whether he has seen or otherwise known, if he does not tell it, then he will bear his guilt.

In Israel all the people were to be involved in seeing that justice was done. Not to witness was a sin. (Harris)

But what about a person that witnesses a crime? It’s their duty to testify in court. To tell the truth, a duty to society. If he does not tell it, will he bear his guilt?
I believe so.

Pray for a revival, look at the lawlessness in our land!
Our nation is bearing the guilt (discipline) of sin!
We have many examples of Israel in the Bible.
Which example do you believe fits?

Leviticus 4:32-35 Atonement!

32If, however, he brings a lamb as a sin offering, he is to bring an unblemished female. 33And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it as a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. 34Then the priest must take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar. 35And he is to remove all the fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the peace offerings, and he shall burn it on the altar along with the offerings made by fire to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

32”If the people bring a sheep as their sin offering, it must be a female with no defects. NLT

Atonement is easy and clean! Ever watch Passion of the Christ? Can you watch the scourging through the cruxifixction? There are several scenes I always look away!
I’m always reminded when Adam and Eve sinned that the Lord made them clothing from animal skins! A bloody process!
Genesis 3:21 And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife. NLT

The next time Satan whispers in your ear: Just do it, remember the price of atonement Christ paid for you on the cross!

Atonement, do you accept His sacrifice?

Blessings, David

Let me remind you that this is God’s universe, and He is doing things His way. You may think you have a better way, but you don’t have a universe to rule.

Leviticus 4:27-31 Common People Sins!

27And if one of the common people sins unintentionally and does what is prohibited by any of the LORD’s commandments, he incurs guilt. 28When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed, he is to bring a female goat without blemish as his offering for that sin. 29He shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. 30Then the priest is to take some of its blood with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 31Then he shall remove all the fat just as it is removed from the peace offering, and the priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven.

Ordinary, common people, ordinary individual, member of the community, you people, soul of the people are all examples of different translations.
Do you view yourself as an ordinary common person?

During the covid-19 lockdowns the common people were ordered to stay at home while our leaders were free to do as they pleased. Our governor ordered that you couldn’t go to a second home or cabin but she did. She ordered businesses closed including those that stored, launched boats and installed docks.
When they were allowed to open again the governors husband tried to get a dock business to install their dock and launch their boat for memorial weekend ahead of others.

The a Good News is with Jesus Christ, His love for us is unequaled. With salvation we are His saints and we are no longer common! We are marked as His! We won’t die a second death! And we can earn up to five different crowns! (David Jeremiah)

While our leaders on this earth view us as ordinary common people our a Father in heaven sees us as His adopted children through Christ! We are special and are His saints!

Are you one of His saints?

Leviticus 4:22-26 When a leader sins!

22When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is prohibited by any of the commandments of the LORD his God, he incurs guilt. 23When he becomes aware of the sin he has committed, he must bring an unblemished male goat as his offering. 24He is to lay his hand on the head of the goat and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the LORD. It is a sin offering. 25Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 26He must burn all its fat on the altar, like the fat of the peace offerings; thus the priest will make atonement for that man’s sin, and he will be forgiven. BSB

Different translations say:
When a leader sins unintentionally...NIV
If one of Israel’s leaders sins by violating one of the commands of the LORD...NLT
When a leader sins, doing unintentionally...ESV
When a ruler has sinned, and done something unintentionally...NKJ
When a prince sinneth and through inadvertence....DBT

What does studying different translations teach us?
When we examine context of the chapter it brings clarity. In this example of verse 22 the Lord is teaching Israel what they must do if they unintentionally sin, so I believe the New Living Translation is a better fit for verse 22 because it shows us it’s speaking of a leader of Israel.
Even though the Berean Study Bible is supposedly the most accurate translation to date and it says “when a leader sins”.

“The Berean Bible is a completely new translation based on the best available manuscripts and sources. Each word is connected back to the Greek or Hebrew text, resulting in a transparent and honest text that can be studied for its root meanings.”

I use the app, Bible Hub and my default bible is BSB.

Which translation do you use and enjoy?

Leviticus 4:13-21 The Whole Congregation!

13Now if the whole congregation of Israel strays unintentionally and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly so that they violate any of the LORD’s commandments and incur guilt by doing what is forbidden, 14when they become aware of the sin they have committed, then the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering and present it before the Tent of Meeting. 15The elders of the congregation are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the LORD, and it shall be slaughtered before the LORD. 16Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the bull’s blood into the Tent of Meeting, 17and he is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD in front of the veil. 18He is also to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting, and he must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 19And he is to remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar. 20He shall offer this bull just as he did the bull for the sin offering; in this way the priest will make atonement on their behalf, and they will be forgiven. 21Then he is to take the bull outside the camp and burn it, just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly.

The sin offering for the congregation was the same as the sin offering for the priest except that “The elders of the congregation are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the LORD,”.

Last night I was listening to a preacher on the radio and he discussed John Dillinger when he was a child. His parents were at wits end and wanted him to attend Sunday school at church hoping that learning about Jesus would help him.
The parents that had children in the class found out about it and told the teacher that if Johnny attended they would pull their children from class.
John Dillinger wasn’t able to attend.
Could his life of crime been avoided if he attended Sunday school and was “saved”?

Did the parents of the whole congregation sin unintentionally when they told the Sunday school teacher if Johnny attended they would pull their children from class?
Or was it intentional?
Did they act with the love of Christ?

Was Johnny Dillinger the real little Johnny in all those stupid jokes?

Leviticus 4:1-12 Affects of sin!

1Then the LORD said to Moses, 2“Tell the Israelites to do as follows with one who sins unintentionally against any of the LORD’s commandments and does what is forbidden by them:
3If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the LORD a young bull without blemish as a sin offeringa for the sin he has committed. 4He must bring the bull to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and slaughter it before the LORD. 5Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood and bring it into the Tent of Meeting. 6The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the sanctuary. 7The priest must then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting. And he is to pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 8Then he shall remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering—the fat that covers the entrails, all the fat that is on them, 9both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys— 10just as the fat is removed from the ox of the peace offering. Then the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering. 11But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and legs and its entrails and dung— 12all the rest of the bull—he must take outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place where the ashes are poured out, and there he must burn it on a wood fire on the ash heap.

“one who sins unintentionally” Is any sin unintentional? Guzik says the idea here is one who loves God and sins.

The person who offered a sin offering cannot benefit from the animal offered to the Lord. The meat and hide are valuable, therefor had to be burned with the worthless parts of the animal.

Sin affects our prayer life.
Sin affects our health.
Sin affects relationships.
Sin affects our relationship with the Lord.

What is sin affecting in your life?

Leviticus 3:12-27 All the fat is the Lords!

12If one’s offering is a goat, he is to present it before the LORD. 13He must lay his hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the Tent of Meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle its blood on all sides of the altar.
14And from his offering he shall present an offering made by fire to the LORD: the fat that covers the entrails, all the fat that is on them, 15both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys. 16Then the priest is to burn the food on the altar as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma. All the fat is the LORD’s.
17This is a permanent statute for the generations to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any fat or any blood.”

“All the fat is the LORD’s.”
How many of us would say? Lord if all the fat is yours, take mine away!
Fat serves a purpose, it helps you survive in lean times. Years ago you couldn’t go to a grocery store to buy food, you raised it, grew it and harvested it.
Fat was your body’s storehouse (granary) for lean times!

....”You must not eat any fat or any blood.”
Fat affects your cholesterol and can cause heart disease.
But what about consuming meat with blood?
Blood in the Bible represents the symbol of life.
Blood was the only atonement of sin.
“God wanted to ensure that the blood of the sacrifices was always considered precious. To preserve the people’s appreciation of the sacrifices, God could not allow blood to become a common food.”
I had a friend that loved Blood Sausage, it’s a Polish delicacy.

I thank the Lord that Jesus completed the Law!
Do you?

Leviticus 3:6-11 Flock Peace Offering of Fat!

6If, however, one’s peace offering to the LORD is from the flock, he must present a male or female without blemish.
7If he is presenting a lamb for his offering, he must present it before the LORD. 8He is to lay his hand on the head of his offering and slaughter it in front of the Tent of Meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle its blood on all sides of the altar.
9And from the peace offering he shall bring an offering made by fire to the LORD consisting of its fat: the entire fat tail cut off close to the backbone, the fat that covers the entrails, all the fat that is on them, 10both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys. 11Then the priest is to burn them on the altar as food, an offering made by fire to the LORD.

Guzik says the fat tail is significant because it was considered a delicacy an weighed as much as 60 pounds.
The leftover meat was given to the priests for food.

I remember my mother used to take fat from meat and cube it very small and fry it up in a iron skillet until golden brown. Fat was considered a delicacy and people enjoyed eating it. But nowadays we are told fat is unhealthy for your heart and cholesterol.

How do you enjoy peace with God?

Leviticus 3:1-5 Enjoy Peace With God!

1“If one’s offering is a peace offering and he offers an animal from the herd, whether male or female, he must present it without blemish before the LORD. 2He is to lay his hand on the head of the offering and slaughter it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood on all sides of the altar.
3From the peace offering he is to bring an offering made by fire to the LORD: the fat that covers the entrails, all the fat that is on them, 4both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he is to remove with the kidneys. 5Then Aaron’s sons are to burn it on the altar atop the burnt offering that is on the burning wood, as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

A peace offering wasn’t a sin offering or to make peace with God, it was to enjoy peace with God.

What was the greatest peace offering in the Bible?
1 Kings 8:63 And Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the house of the LORD.

The reason Jesus made peace between the Father and the believer so peace could be enjoyed.(Guzik)

Have you made peace with Jesus?

Our world and nation is full of trouble, but a believer who has his salvation in Christ should have peace! The believer should be reading the Lords book (Bible) which gives us understanding in these times of trouble and what is to come!
Have and enjoy peace knowing that your home is in heaven!

Blessings, David

Leviticus 2:14-16 Firstfruits!

14If you bring a grain offering of firstfruits to the LORD, you shall offer crushed heads of new grain roasted on the fire. 15And you are to put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16The priest shall then burn the memorial portion of the crushed grain and the oil, together with all its frankincense, as an offering made by fire to the LORD.

Proverbs 3: 9Honor the LORD with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your harvest;
10then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will overflow with new wine.

Those of us who like to cook know that if grains, nuts and herbs are roasted in a pan, it intensifies the aromatics and flavors.
My wife has a favorite holiday dish she prepares, walnuts smothered in maple syrup with vanilla and a pinch of salt. The walnuts are roasted in a skillet and the syrup is added with the other ingredients and they are roasted until it starts to caramelize, they bubble up and boil. Then they are poured out on parchment paper and allowed to cool. If they are roasted long enough they are not wet or sticky.
Scrumptious!

Who is our firstfruits?

1 Corinthians 15: 20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Is He yours?

Leviticus 2:11-13 A Pinch of Salt!

11No grain offering that you present to the LORD may be made with leaven, for you are not to burn any leaven or honey as an offering made by fire to the LORD. 12You may bring them to the LORD as an offering of firstfruits, but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13And you shall season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offering—you are to add salt to each of your offerings.

“As the burnt offering was to be ‘without blemish’ so the meal offering was to be without leaven.” (Morgan)

“My brethren, nothing in the service of God is trifling. A pinch of salt may seem to us exceedingly unimportant, but before the Lord it may not be so.” (Spurgeon)

No leaven – the symbol of the rising pride and self.”
No honey – that which is merely attractive and sensuous.” (F.B. Meyer)

Leaven in the Bible is synonymous with sin.

A pinch of salt?
I have to control my salt intake by not ingesting salty foods. You don’t realize how much salt flavors food until you refrain from using it.
My wife has to use salt daily!
We are opposites when it comes to salt!

Honey was a favorite in sacrifices to pagan deities.

Why is it that we try to fix life’s obstacles without God and we question why God wants His order in offerings?

What would our world be like today if Adam and Eve questioned the serpent’s intentions?

Leviticus 2:4-10 Baked Grain Offering!

4Now if you bring an offering of grain baked in an oven, it must consist of fine flour, either unleavened cakes mixed with oil or unleavened wafers coated with oil.
5If your offering is a grain offering prepared on a griddle,a it must be unleavened bread made of fine flour mixed with oil. 6Crumble it and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering.
7If your offering is a grain offering cooked in a pan,b it must consist of fine flour with oil.
8When you bring to the LORD the grain offering made in any of these ways, it is to be presented to the priest, and he shall take it to the altar. 9The priest is to remove the memorial portion from the grain offering and burn it on the altar as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. 10But the remainder of the grain offering shall belong to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the offerings made by fire to the LORD.

Baked or cooked grain offerings must have had a pleasant odor! Have you ever baked a loaf of bread or corn bread? How pleasant they smell!
Baking bread was one of my fathers favorite past times. He experimented with many types and would fine tune his recipes.
I remember one time I baked a loaf of bread at my cabin and was taking care of my mother’s dog. I was going outside to work and looked at her sleeping inside and decided to put the baked loaf on the back of the stove top. After I came back in the loaf was gone! I looked inside the oven and on the table, nothing! Then the dog still sleeping in the same spot but then she burped!

Do you give thanks for your daily bread?

Leviticus 2:1-3 Grain Offering

1“When anyone brings a grain offering to the LORD, his offering must consist of fine flour. He is to pour olive oil on it, put frankincense on it, 2and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour and oil, together with all the frankincense, and burn this as a memorial portion on the altar, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. 3The remainder of the grain offering shall belong to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the offerings made by fire to the LORD.

The grain offering was an offering of thanksgiving, not an atonement for sin.
Similar to the original intent of our Thanksgiving, thanking Him for the harvest.
The remainder of the grain was to feed Aaron and his sons because their lives were serving the Lord as priests, it was their full time occupation.

Corruption, why does man corrupt everything? Look at our holidays, their original intent and what they have become and the Israelites also had the same issue!
It’s because our hearts are evil and when we drift away from the Lord we fall, our evil desires takeover.

Leviticus 1:14-17 Bird Offering!

14If, instead, one’s offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, he is to offer a turtledove or a young pigeon. 15Then the priest shall bring it to the altar, twist off its head, and burn it on the altar; its blood should be drained out on the side of the altar. 16And he is to remove the crop with its contentsa and throw it to the east side of the altar, in the place for ashes. 17He shall tear it open by its wings, without dividing the bird completely. And the priest is to burn it on the altar atop the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

A bull, sheep, goat or a bird. It depended upon your wealth, what you could afford. If you didn’t own livestock then you would catch or purchase a turtledove or a young pigeon.
Leviticus 1 is about sin, transferring your sin (confession) to the animal and offering it as a burnt offering.

We also see a turtledove or two young pigeons were used In this example of consecration:
Luke 2: 22And when the time of purification according to the Law of Moses was complete, His parents (Mary & Joseph) brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23(as it is written in the Law of the Lord: “Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to the Lord”c), 24and to offer the sacrifice specified in the Law of the Lord: “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”d

Are you glad Jesus completed the law?

Blessings, David
