Daniel 5 The Handwriting is on the Wall

I encourage you to listen to this teaching! The sermon begins 20 minutes after the worship music and he draws an analogy on what is happening in the United States right now.

Summary
“The judgment of God may be long in coming, but it comes with vengeance. For ancient Babylon, that time came when Daniel foretold the doom of the king, interpreting the handwriting on the wall. We in America should take heed, as Babylon’s story might also be ours.” (Moody Church)

The Right Choice. Jude 1:4

Choices. We make a million every day. What time to get up, what to wear, what to eat, what to drink. We make most of them without a second thought. Some decisions we regret, some may lead to unpleasant consequences. Some decisions can even leave devastation in its wake.

God gave us free will. The opportunity to make choices. We can choose to believe in Him or we can choose not to. It’s a choice that can have devastating consequences.

It’s the unforgivable sin. Choosing to deny Christ. Choosing not to believe. Choosing not to accept His forgiveness. Refusing to know Him as your Lord and Savior. Denying His Deity.

Don’t make the wrong choice.

Jude 1:4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about  long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Numbers 9:6-8 WAIT

6But there were some men who were unclean due to a dead body, so they could not observe the Passover on that day. And they came before Moses and Aaron that same day 7and said to Moses, “We are unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be excluded from presenting the LORD’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?”

8“Wait here until I find out what the LORD commands concerning you,” Moses replied.

Wait

Waiting is hard for us to do as it goes against our sin nature.

How many times have we failed to wait on the Lord for an answer and took the consequences into our own hands?

You say, Lord what should I do? But there’s too much noise around you and you can’t hear Him speak.

Pray on it and pray some more. Go into your closet with your Bible, pray again and start reading.

Can you hear Him? If not “Wait here until I (you) find out what the LORD commands concerning you”........

Numbers 9:4-5 Passover Lamb

4So Moses told the Israelites to observe the Passover, 5and they did so in the Wilderness of Sinai, at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. The Israelites did everything just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

“in His maturity, in His very prime, then Jesus Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us. And, moreover, at the time of His death, Christ was full of life, for we are informed by one of the evangelists that, “He cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost.” (Spurgeon)

Other versions say, and breathed his last, and yielded up His spirit.

Have you been around a loved one when they breathed his last and yielded up their spirit? I was fortunate to be at the bedside of my grandmother, mother and father when they yielded up their spirit.

Jesus Christ is my Passover lamb, is He yours?

Numbers 9:1-3 Our Passover!

1In the first month of the second year after Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, the LORD spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai: 2“The Israelites are to observe the Passover at its appointed time. 3You are to observe it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteentha day of this month, in accordance with its statutes and ordinances.”

Our Passover!

“For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7.

“Let us behold our Savior Jesus as the Paschal Lamb on which we feed, yea, let us not only look at Him as such, but let us sit down tonight at His table, let us eat of His flesh and drink of His blood, for His flesh is meat indeed, and His blood is drink indeed. In holy solemnity let our hearts approach that ancient supper, let us go back to Egypt’s darkness, and by holy contemplation behold, instead of the destroying angel, the angel of the covenant, at the head of the feast—“The Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world.” (Spurgeon)

A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing Jude 1:3-4

We use to have a wolf hybrid. Her name was Grizzly because when we first got her at 10 weeks old she had a stubby tail and round little ears. I was holding her in my arms on her back tickling her belly and said “You look just like a little Grizzly Bear.” That was it, we had a name for her. She was stubborn, gentle and very smart.

Where did the phrase “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” come from? It originates from Jesus’s own words in Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

Judes letter is a warning to the first century Christians about false teachers slipping in among the Church and perverting the teaching of the Gospel, trying to twist it into something it was not meant to be. Judes warning is still relevant today. I found this site godwords.org helpful in researching false teachers.

Jude 1:3-4
Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. 4For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about  long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Numbers 8:23-26 Retirement

23And the LORD said to Moses, 24“This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years of age or older shall enter to perform the service in the work at the Tent of Meeting. 25But at the age of fifty, they must retire from performing the work and no longer serve.26After that, they may assist their brothers in fulfilling their duties at the Tent of Meeting, but they themselves are not to do the work. This is how you are to assign responsibilities to the Levites.”

Retirement

The Lord had a retirement plan for the Levites, His priests.

My retirement came earlier than I had planned for a number of reasons but the Lord provided and still does. I believe the hardest thing to deal with was myself because I always had a gift of fixing things. I had to leave it at the foot of the cross and say, Lord I can’t do this without You so I’m turning it over to You!

I personally believe the Lord was waiting for me to surrender!

Do you have a problem that’s too big for you to handle?

Have you surrendered it to the Lord?
