Genesis 16:7-16 The Lord hears!

7Now the Angel of the LORD found Hagar by a spring of water in the desert—the spring along the road to Shur. 8“Hagar, servant of Sarai,” He said, “where have you come from, and where are you going?”
“I am running away from my mistress Sarai,” she replied.
9So the Angel of the LORD told her, “Return to your mistress and submit to her authority.” 10Then the Angel added, “I will greatly multiply your offspring so that they will be too numerous to count.”
11The Angel of the LORD proceeded:
“Behold, you have conceived and will bear a son.
And you shall name him Ishmael,
for the LORD has heard your cry of affliction.
12He will be a wild donkey of a man,
and his hand will be against everyone,
and everyone’s hand against him;
he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.”
13So Hagar gave this name to the LORD who had spoken to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “Here I have seen the One who sees me!” 14Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi. It is located between Kadesh and Bered.
15And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. 16Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.

Angel of the Lord, this is His first appearance in the Bible and He chose to appear to a pregnant woman. Hagar understood later the He was God but we also know that no man has ever seen God. 1 Timothy 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

So we know the Angel of the Lord is Jesus Christ Himself the 2nd part of the Trinity. There will be eight other appearances of the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament.
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Abraham (Genesis 22)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Moses (Exodus 3)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Balaam (Numbers 22)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Israel collectively (Judges 2)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Gideon (Judges 6)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Samson’s parents (Judges 13)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to David (2 Samuel 24)
The Angel of the LORD would later appear to Elijah (1 Kings 19)

Notice the question. “where have you come from, and where are you going?”
She was running away from Sarai and going nowhere.
We must be honest the moment God asks us this question!

Abram fathered a son, Ishmael who will become the Aramaic people.
Look closely at verse 12He will be a wild donkey of a man,
and his hand will be against everyone,
and everyone’s hand against him;
he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.”
This was Gods choosing by letting Hagar survive. He chose that Ishmael should live. God has a plan for the Aramaic people.

“the LORD has heard your cry of affliction.” Yes the Lord hears your cry of affliction too!
Lift your troubles up to Him, He’s listening!

Blessings, David
