15Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
Urge: try earnestly or persistently to persuade (someone) to do something: "admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone. "
Our adoptive son was unruly at times which required admonishment. We always tried to encourage him to try and do new things. We taught him to help the weak and to try to be patient with everyone. Down deep he had a good heart.
His birth family had taught him to repay evil with evil. We constantly tried to teach and show him this was against God's law as He says, vengeance is Mine says the Lord.
"pursue what is good for one another and for all people." We tried to show our son to pursue what is good, not what is evil.
One day we were eating lunch at Five Guys Burgers and he saw a homeless guy walking down the street. He asked "dad can we buy him a meal?" His good heart was coming through that day. I said yes. So we purchased the food and drove down the road to find him. When our son went to give him the food he yelled NO!
I said it's ok we will find someone else. We didn't drive a half mile when my wife spotted someone sitting on the curb in front of Walgreens. She yelled pull over.
Picture this, a woman beaten to a pulp with a blanket around her and everyone stepping around her.
Does the story of the Good Samaritan ring a bell? Because of the situation we decided that my wife should handle it.
She got out of the car, knelt down beside her, talked to her, prayed for her, offered her a ride and a meal.
I believe this was the person God led us to that day but he used the other homeless person to stir my sons heart.
Is He stirring your heart today?
Blessings, David
