1 Samuel 19:18 “He spent some time with a godly man”

”So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth.“

‭‭I Samuel‬ ‭19‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

a. Went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him: David did the right thing when in a difficult and confusing situation. He spent some time with a godly man. We can imagine David pouring out his heart to the prophet: “Samuel, you anointed me king and look what happened! I guess it isn’t time yet, but why is it so hard? Does God want me dead? Why is the LORD allowing this?”

b. Stayed in Naioth: The word Naioth comes from the Hebrew word for residence. This spoke of Samuel’s home (which may have had the “Naioth” title itself), or it may have been some landmark or specific place in Ramah. Whenever Naioth is mentioned, it is associated with Ramah. (Guzik)

“He spent some time with a godly man”

David needed to pour out his heart and to lean on a godly man.

My wife and I have been leading a Life Recovery Bible Group. My favorite part about this group, after fellowship, worship and the large bible study is the small men’s group because “I spend some time with godly men”. After we discuss the questions of the 12 step program we have open share and discuss how our week went and then we pray for each other. It’s not a time of fixing one another, it’s a time of supporting and leaning on each other without judgment.

Do you on a weekly basis, spend time with a godly man or woman?

Blessings
