19So they approached Joseph’s steward and spoke to him at the entrance to the house. 20“Please, sir,” they said, “we really did come down here the first time to buy food. 21But when we came to the place we stopped for the night, we opened our sacks and, behold, each of us found his silver in the mouth of his sack! It was the full amount of our money, and we have brought it back with us. 22We have brought additional money with us to buy food. We do not know who put our money in our sacks.”
23“It is fine,” said the steward. “Do not be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, gave you the treasure that was in your sacks. I received your money.” Then he brought Simeon out to them. 24And the steward took the men into Joseph’s house, gave them water to wash their feet, and provided food for their donkeys.
The brothers thought it wise to explain to the steward about the money before they explained it to the official (Joseph) himself.
“Do not be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, gave you the treasure that was in your sacks. I received your money.”
This statement is striking to me, the steward is familiar with the Hebrew God. He was Joseph’s servant and from being around him he learned about God. Joseph was a His light!
Christians this is an important point, don’t miss it. When you’re out in the world or at work people are watching you.
How else would they learn about Jesus if not from you?
His light should be shining on, in and around you!
Make it count and don’t be added as a hypocrite because that’s what unbelievers expect!
Be His light and shine a path in darkness to the cross!
Ephesians 5: 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, 9for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Blessings, David
