5The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
What is the first resurrection?
All the righteous are raised from the dead before the millennial kingdom begins.
After reading much commentary, I believe the best description of the first resurrection is the scripture itself. Man tends to complicate things!
1 Thessalonians 4:16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise.
And
Revelation 20:4Then I saw the thrones, and those seated on them had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image, and had not received its mark on their foreheads or hands. And they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
The second resurrection is of the “wicked” unbelievers after the millennium (1000 years) for judgement. The second resurrection is connected to the second death.
Which resurrection would you like to attend?
Last night during our men’s group someone mentioned the first time they were asked to preach they were eight years old. He asked the group, “who would like to go to Hell?” He said a drunk raised his hand and stood up and said “I would!”.
He didn’t become a preacher, but he does teach a class on Compassionate Recovery!
Blessings, David
