Babylon is Fallen
1After this I saw another angel descending from heaven with great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his glory. 2And he cried out in a mighty voice:
“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a lair of demons.
She is a haunt for every unclean spirit,
a hideout for every unclean bird,
and a hold for every detestable beast.
the wine of the passion of her immorality.
The kings of the earth were immoral with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy
through the extravagance of her luxury.”
4Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
“Come out of her, my people,d
so that you will not share in her sins
or contract any of her plagues.
5For her sins are piled up to heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.
6Give back to her as she has done to others;
pay her back double for what she has done;
mix her a double portion in her own cup.
7To the degree that she has glorified herself and lived in luxury,
inflict on her that much torment and misery.
In her heart she says, ‘I sit as queen;
I am not a widow and will never see mourning.’
8Therefore her plagues will come in one day,
death and misery and famine;
and she will be consumed by fire,
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
In Revelation 17 we saw the destruction of the “religious “ Babylon and in Revelation 18 we see the destruction of the “economic” Babylon.
The angel just left the presence of God, and earth was illuminated with his glory. When Moses was in the presence of God His face glowed.
Exodus 34:29
The angel proclaims;
“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a lair of demons.
She is a haunt for every unclean spirit, a hideout for every unclean bird, and a hold for every detestable beast.”
“Come out of her, my people,d
so that you will not share in her sins
or contract any of her plagues.”
As in Genesis 19, Lot was instructed to leave the city before God destroyed Sodom.
“5For her sins are piled up to heaven,”
This is the same reference in Genesis 19 as why God was going to destroy Sodom.
“pay her back double for what she has done”. In the Old Testament restoration required to pay back double. The same concept here.
Because of their sins, because of pride God is going to destroy Babylon with plagues, misery, famine and fire!
“for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.”
Blessings, David
