The Rider on the White Horse
11Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war. 12He has eyes like blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name written on Him that only He Himself knows. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,a and His name is The Word of God.
14The armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and pure, follow Him on white horses. 15And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter.b He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. 16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
The white horse signifies power and victory.
“Any view of God which eliminates judgment and his hatred of sin in the interest of an emasculated doctrine of sentimental affection finds no support in the strong and virile realism of the Apocalypse.” (Mounce)
“12He has eyes like blazing fire” His eyes see everything! He sees everything done in secret.
“many royal crowns on His head.” Unlimited sovereignty of royal authority and power!
“13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood”. Is it His blood signifying the cross or the blood of His enemies? We don’t know, either is possible.
Jesus returns to earth with an army from heaven. Angels will accompany Him but the main idea here is The Son of God leads the people of God from heaven against earth!
“from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword”. This is not an actual sword per say, it is a spoken word that defeats the kings and nations of the earth.
No different than , Lazarus come forth! It will be something like DONE, “which to strike down the nations”.
“He will rule them with an iron scepter.b He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty”.
He is about to judge the earth, all those who refused His mercy will receive the wrath of God!
“16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
At the same time, no one knew [the name] except Himself.
Which army would you like to be in?
The army of God or the army fighting against God?
I’ve read the final chapter, God wins!
Blessings, David
