By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

By His great mercy
Has given us new birth
A Living hope

Total Eclipse of the Son. Matthew 27:45-46 NLT

In a few days we will experience a total eclipse of the sun, depending on where you are in the world. Those along the path of the sun will see a total eclipse, the majority of us will see a partial eclipse. I do not plan on trying to view it. I think it's too risky.

The three hour period  from about noon to 3:00 p.m. on the day Jesus hung on the cross, the entire world experienced a total eclipse. Now, the Passover was held during a full moon. What I discovered researching eclipses is it's scientifically impossible to have a solar eclipse during a full moon. Eclipses happen in the new moon stage where the moon is not visible from the earth. In addition, solar eclipses don't last three hours. The actual black out period is under eight minutes.

Why had God forsaken Jesus? I've always found this disturbing. Scripture tells us way back in Deuteronomy 31:8 "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” God looked away because the sin laid upon Jesus was too foul to look at. God, being everything good, could not defile Himself with the sight. He had to look away. Yet, I don't believe God actually left Jesus hanging there all alone. His love was still there. In Isaiah 42:1 God said  "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” The plan was still in place. Jesus would die and rise in three days. Jesus would ascend to Heaven in Forty days. Jesus would take His place of honor at Gods right hand.

Matthew 27:45-46 NLT

The Death of Jesus

45 At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 46 At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,  lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have You abandoned Me?”

1 Peter 1- You are a saint and holy!

2chosen by the foreknowledge of God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

This describes the nature of their election. God’s choosing is not random or uninformed, but according to His foreknowledge, which is an aspect of His omniscience. This foreknowledge includes prior knowledge of our response to the gospel, but is not solely dependent on it. (Guzik)

The word sanctification is related to the word saint; both words have to do with holiness. To “sanctify” something is to set it apart for special use; to “sanctify” a person is to make him holy.

"Cleansing of sin" by the sprinkling of  His blood.

God chose you before you accepted Him, He set you apart from this world as a saint and when you accepted Jesus, He made you holy with the cleansing of His blood.

Think about this; You are a saint and holy!

Peter combined the elements of both cultures; Grace was Greek and peace was Jewish.

Grace and peace to you!

Love Held Him There. Matthew 27:39-44 NLT

Children can be cruel. They bully, mock, make fun of and humiliate each other. Adults can be just as cruel. If it's not face to face, it's cyber bullying.

Our Pastor has been doing a great series titled " What Would Jesus Post or W.W.J.P. " He talked about how today we can hide behind a keyboard and say things we wouldn't dare say to the persons face.

No holding back as Jesus was harassed, mocked and bullied on the cross. They challenged Him to "save Himself" and prove His claims by coming down off the cross. Even then, they still would not have believed. They were too filled with hate.

Even in this state of total and complete humiliation, Jesus still loved them. It wasn't the nails that held Jesus on the cross, He could have rescued Himself at any moment. It was His love for them, His love for you and His love for me that held Him there.

Matthew 27:39-44 NLT

39 The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.  40 “Look at you now!” they yelled at Him. “You said You were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if You are the Son of God, save Yourself and come down from the cross!”

41 The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.  42 “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but He can’t save Himself! So He is the King of Israel, is He? Let Him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in Him!  43 He trusted God, so let God rescue Him now if He wants Him! For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”  44 Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with Him ridiculed Him in the same way.

Secrets!

Secrets can only be kept from others, nothing is kept from God. Two stories
come to mind of mighty men of God that thought no-one knew what they did.
Moses saw a Hebrew being beaten, he looked left, then right, killed the
Egyptian and buried him in the sand (Ex 2). Moses never looked up. Then
King David. He saw Bathsheba, got her pregnant, killed her husband and
thought it would all go away(2 Sam 11-12). And it says in *2 Samuel
11:27...But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.* There have
been many things that I have done throughout my life, and even in my
Christian walk, that I know have displeased the Lord. Some of these things
passed without severe consequences and some the consequences were very
painful. There is a verse that I fear to come to pass in my own life. *Luke
12:2 But there is nothing [so carefully] concealed that it will not be
revealed, nor so hidden that it will not be made known. 3 For that reason,
whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you
have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops.*
For those that think that what you do in private is not known to anyone,
think again. There are many that are doing things behind closed doors that
God is not please with. How are you treating your family? If you are
drinking, doing drugs, engaging in sexual misconduct or pornography, stop
it, repent and get help. There have been times when my shame has been to
much for me to bear. Jesus knew my sin and went to the cross for me
anyways, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Romans 13-Send them a prayer!

Romans 13

Submission to Authorities
(1 Peter 2:13-20)
1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. 2Consequently, the one who resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and you will have his approval. 4For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not carry the sword in vain. He is God’s servant, an agent of retribution to the wrongdoer.
5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work.

Today I am asking you to pray for our president and his administration.
Why? Because Jesus told us to.
As you can see in these verses we are to submit to the authorities that God has put in place. If you don't, you are putting yourself in danger, you are against God.

Use this link and send them a prayer.

You don't have to agree with the presidents policies.
Just send a prayer that Gods will be done and the He keeps His hand of protection over him and his family.
Prayer can change the world.
It starts with you and your prayers.

Not For The Faint At Heart. Matthew 27:32-38 NLT

From a "Bing" search-The word excruciating comes from Latin excruciare, from cruciare, to crucify. It means unbearably painful, or extreme agony. The word excruciating originates from crucifixion i.e. “a pain like the pain of crucifixion”. Crucifixion is the most painful torture ever invented.

"Consider how heinous sin must be in the sight of God, when it requires such a sacrifice!” Adam Clarke

I hesitated using this text. It's rather graphic. I copied it from one of the source's I use each morning when I do my study time. It's not for the faint of heart but makes a stunning impression.

In 1986, Dr. William Edwards wrote a remarkable article in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association titled “On the Physical Death of Jesus Christ.” Following are some of the observations of Dr. Edwards and his associates. The quotations belong to the article, and much of the other text is paraphrased from the article.

“Although the Romans did not invent crucifixion, they perfected it as a form of torture and capital punishment that was designed to produce a slow death with maximum pain and suffering.”

The victim’s back was first torn open by the scourging, then opened again as the congealing, clotting blood came off with the clothing that was removed at the place of crucifixion. When thrown on the ground to nail the hands to the crossbeam, the wounds were again opened, deepened, and contaminated with dirt. With each breath attached to the upright cross, the painful wounds on the back scraped against the rough wood of the upright beam and were further aggravated

Driving the nail through the wrist severed the large median nerve. This stimulated nerve caused bolts of fiery pain in both arms, and often resulted in a claw-like grip in the victim’s hands.

Beyond the severe pain, the major effect of crucifixion inhibited normal breathing. The weight of the body, pulling down on the arms and shoulders, tended to lock the respiratory muscles in an inhalation state, thus hindering exhalation. The lack of adequate respiration resulted in severe muscle cramps, which hindered breathing even further. To get a good breath, one had to push against the feet and flex the elbows, pulling from the shoulders. Putting the weight of the body on the feet produced more pain, and flexing the elbows twisted the hands hanging on the nails. Lifting the body for a breath also painfully scraped the back against the rough wooden post. Each effort to get a proper breath was agonizing, exhausting, and led to a sooner death.

“Not uncommonly, insects would light upon or burrow into the open wounds or the eyes, ears, and nose of the dying and helpless victim, and birds of prey would tear at these sites. Moreover, it was customary to leave the corpse on the cross to be devoured by predatory animals.”

Death from crucifixion could come from many sources: acute shock from blood loss; being too exhausted to breathe any longer; dehydration; stress-induced heart attack; or congestive heart failure leading to a cardiac rupture. If the victim did not die quickly enough, the legs were broken, and the victim was soon unable to breathe.

The Crucifixion

32 Along the way, they came across a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross.  33 And they went out to a place called Golgotha (which means “Place of the Skull”).  34 The soldiers gave Him wine mixed with bitter gall, but when He had tasted it, He refused to drink it.

35 After they had nailed Him to the cross, the soldiers gambled for His clothes by throwing dice.   36 Then they sat around and kept guard as He hung there.  37 A sign was fastened above Jesus’ head, announcing the charge against Him. It read: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”  38 Two revolutionaries were crucified with Him, one on His right and one on His left.
