Leviticus 7:1-10 Guilt and Trespass!

1“Now this is the law of the guilt (trespass, restitution, repayment) offering, which is most holy: 2The guilt offering must be slaughtered in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, and the priest shall sprinkle its blood on all sides of the altar. 3And all the fat from it shall be offered: the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, 4both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which is to be removed with the kidneys. 5The priest shall burn them on the altar as an offering made by fire to the LORD; it is a guilt offering. 6Every male among the priests may eat of it. It must be eaten in a holy place; it is most holy.

7The guilt offering is like the sin offering; the same law applies to both. It belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it. 8As for the priest who presents a burnt offering for anyone, the hide of that offering belongs to him. 9Likewise, every grain offering that is baked in an oven or cooked in a pana or on a griddle belongs to the priest who presents it, 10and every grain offering, whether dry or mixed with oil, belongs equally to all the sons of Aaron.

Gills Exposition 

“Likewise this is the law of the trespass offering,.... Or the various rites and rules to be observed at the offering of it: the persons for whom it was to be made are described in the two preceding chapters, Leviticus 5:1 both such that sinned through ignorance, and knowingly, and here the place and parts of the offering, and how to be disposed of, are declared:

it is most holy; wholly devoted for sacred use, either to the Lord, or to his priests; there were some things the Jews call light holy things, and others most holy in the highest degree, of this sort was the trespass offering.”

What was a guilt, trespass offering for?

“The trespass or guilt offering is primarily about making reparations. It demonstrates the seriousness of violations against God (even accidental ones) and against one’s fellow man.”

A neighbor who owns forty acres next our our property allows us to walk and hunt his property and in exchange I keep an eye on it for him.

Recently, he got fed up with all the trespassing from ATV’s and had me install a fence blocking the trail the trespassers were using. Another neighbor disliked having “his” trail blocked and tore down the fence, took it and hid it next to a home he uses. Law enforcement is now trying to locate him for theft and trespass.

Question: Would these verses of the guilt and trespass offering be applied in this situation?

When we are guilty of sin against God and our fellow man, we are saying that we are more important that they are. All that matters is me, not them.

Leviticus 6:28-30 A Distinction!

28The clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze pot, the pot must be scoured and rinsed with water. 29Any male among the priests may eat it; it is most holy. 30But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place; it must be burned.

A clay pot is porous and the sin transferred from the sacrificed animal was thought to have contaminated the porous pot. 

There is a distinction made between the sin offering for a priest, for Israel as a whole, for a ruler, and for the common person. 

For the sin offering made for a priest or for Israel as whole, there was no portion of the animal that could be eaten, it had to be burned completely with fire.

Recently we watched a movie on dvd called The Shack. It deals with sin, murder, hate, guilt, forgiveness, love ❤️ and much more. Was he spoken to in a dream or did he really experience meeting the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? You will have to watch and decide for yourself!

All the laws for sacrifices seem complicated to me, I wouldn’t have been able to keep them straight! I thank a God for Jesus Christ! I thank Him for completing the law! I thank Him for being my sacrificial lamb! I thank Him for my salvation!

Leviticus 6:24-27 The Sin Offering!

24And the LORD said to Moses, 25“Tell Aaron and his sons that this is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before the LORD; it is most holy. 26The priest who offers it shall eat it; it must be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. 27Anything that touches its flesh will become holy, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it in a holy place.

The sin offering seems complicated with all the laws set for by the Lord. But when we sin, we don’t think of the consequences! 

A portion of this sin offering went to the priest for food and nourishment.

“Anything touched by the meat of the sin offering or its blood 🩸 had to be holy or be cleansed in a special manner because the animal’s meat was thought to be infected with the sin of the one who brought the offering.” (Guzik)

What does our soul look like infected with sin?

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, He becomes our sin offering.

Ephesians 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, NIV

I wonder if the seal is visual in the spiritual world?

Has Jesus Christ become your sin offering and were you marked His seal?

Leviticus 6:19-23 Griddle Cakes! 😋

19Then the LORD said to Moses, 20“This is the offering that Aaron and his sons must present to the LORD on the day he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine floura as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. 21It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded and present it as a grain offering broken in pieces, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. 22The priest, who is one of Aaron’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. As a permanent portion for the LORD, it must be burned completely. 23Every grain offering for a priest shall be burned completely; it is not to be eaten.”

Griddle cakes, Pancakes! 

The Lord likes them, as they are “a pleasing aroma to the LORD”!

How do you like yours, with butter and maple syrup? I do and sometimes I like strawberry 🍓 preserves spread out on them and rolled up like a jelly roll. 😋 

Luke 14:15When one of those reclining with Him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is everyone who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

I look forward to eating at the feast in the kingdom of God!

Leviticus 6:14-18 A Holy Gift 💝

14Now this is the law of the grain offering: Aaron’s sons shall present it before the LORD in front of the altar. 15The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil, together with all the frankincense from the grain offering, and burn the memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

16Aaron and his sons are to eat the remainder. It must be eaten without leaven in a holy place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. 17It must not be baked with leaven; I have assigned it as their portion of My offerings made by fire. It is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. 18Any male among the sons of Aaron may eat it. This is a permanent portion from the offerings made by fire to the LORD for the generations to come. Anything that touches them will become holy.”

A portion of the offering belonged to the priests. 

They and their family ate it.

It was a holy gift.

Have you ever received or given a holy gift? There have been times we’ve known of a struggling person or family and have given gifts through the church anonymously.

Matthew 6:4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

If the Lord directs your heart ❤️ to give, isn’t that a holy gift to the recipient?

Leviticus 6:8-13 Perpetual 🔥

8Then the LORD said to Moses, 9“Command Aaron and his sons that this is the law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering is to remain on the hearth of the altar all night, until morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar.

10And the priest shall put on his linen robe and linen undergarments, and he shall remove from the altar the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed and place them beside it. 11Then he must take off his garments, put on other clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place.

12The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it must not be extinguished. Every morning the priest is to add wood to the fire, arrange the burnt offering on it, and burn the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. 13The fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be extinguished.

“We may therefore reasonably conclude that the priests sat up by turns the whole night, and fed the fire with portions of this offering till the whole was consumed.” (Clarke)

“No more should our faith, love, zeal (that flame of God, as Solomon calls it, Song of Solomon 8:6-7), that should never go out; the waters should not quench it, nor the ashes cover it.” (Trapp)

Song of Solomon 8: 6Set me as a seal over your heart,

as a seal upon your arm.

Hebrews 7: 27Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.

Leviticus 6:1-7 Add a Fifth!

1And the LORD said to Moses, 2“If someone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by deceiving his neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or stolen, or if he extorts his neighbor 3or finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that a man might commit— 4once he has sinned and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, 5or anything else about which he has sworn falsely.

He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value, and pay it to the owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt. 6Then he must bring to the priest his guilt offering to the LORD: an unblemished ram of proper value from the flock. 7In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be forgiven for anything he may have done to incur guilt.”

Now we are moving into neglectful and intentional sin with an added value to the restitution, add a fifth of the value. 

Our world is turned upside down! I saw a prosecutor released looters and rioters because they were just peaceful protesters and this prosecutor is investigating a couple who defended their property by brandishing firearms after the peaceful protestors broke down their gates and charge towards their home.

If criminals had to pay full restitution plus one fifth, could we say: crime doesn’t pay?

The world is marching towards the end and we are one day closer to meeting our Maker.
