2 Samuel 5:13-16 Success and Prosperity!

”And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. Also more sons and daughters were born to David. Now these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.“ II Samuel‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬-‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

a. David took more concubines and wives: This was in direct disobedience to Deuteronomy 17:17: Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away.

b. More sons and daughters were born to David: Certainly, David (and everyone else) saw these many children as God’s sign of blessing upon David and his many marriages. Yet most of the trouble to come in David’s life came from his relationships with women and problems with his children.

i. It is often true that the seeds to our future trouble are sown in times of great success and prosperity. In some ways, David handled trials better than success. (Guzik)

Success and Prosperity!

David didn’t handle success and prosperity well!

“It is often true that the seeds to our future trouble are sown in times of great success and prosperity”. How true! When things are going well our flesh tends to convince us that we did it, we built it on our own!

But when we become sick or are in need of a surgeon’s scalpel we turn to the Lord!

But a godly man with a string of bad luck once said to me, “have you considered my servant Job?” (Insert his or your name in place of Job’s!)

Job had success and prosperity and the Lord boasted about him to Satan!

The book of Job is about faith, success and prosperity, trials and tribulations, restoration and blessings!

May we have the faith of Job if we have success and prosperity and the wisdom to know it’s all from of the Lord!

Blessings
