Judges 6:7-10 But you did not obey Me

6Israel was greatly impoverished by Midian, and the Israelites cried out to the LORD.

7Now when the Israelites cried out to the LORD because of Midian, 8He sent them a prophet, who told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 9I delivered you out of the hands of Egypt and all your oppressors. I drove them out before you and gave you their land. 10And I said to you: ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.’ But you did not obey Me.”

“God sent this messenger to tell them where the real problem was. It wasn’t that the Midianites were so strong; it was that Israel was so disobedient.

i. Israel thought the problem was the Midianites, but the real problem was Israel. It is human nature to blame others for problems that we cause.

ii. The message of the prophet also shows that when Israel cried out to the LORD, they didn’t understand that they were the problem. Their cry to God for help did not mean that they recognized or repented of their sin.” (Guzik)

But you did not obey Me

It would be good for us to remember this statement every time we sin because when it comes right down to the root cause of sinning it’s because we didn’t obey God.

Matthew 22: 37Jesus declared, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

These two commandments if followed don’t leave any room for sin.

Do you obey God?

Blessings
