Joshua 12:1-6 Servant of the Lord

1Now these are the kings of the land whom the Israelites struck down and whose lands they took beyond the Jordan to the east, from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon, including all the Arabah eastward:

“The land of these kings comprised Israel’s land on the eastern side of the Jordan river, on the other side of the Jordan toward the rising of the sun.

b. These are the kings: This list only seems tedious to us because we do not live in the land. For those who received their inheritance there, these were essential matters that touched everyday life, answering the question: “What land belongs to Israel?” (Guzik)

2Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along the middle of the valley, up to the Jabbok River (the border of the Ammonites), that is, half of Gilead, 3as well as the Arabah east of the Sea of Chinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea), eastward through Beth-jeshimoth, and southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

4And Og king of Bashan, one of the remnant of the Rephaim, who lived in Ashtaroth and Edrei. 5He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, all of Bashan up to the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

6Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had struck them down and given their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

I’m reminded when studying the verses that God is sovereign, the Israelites couldn’t have taken these lands and stuck down the kings and the people without the Lord!

Job 1:21…….. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away.

Blessed be the name of the LORD.

But remember Nineveh?

Jonah 3: 5And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.

The Lord pardoned Nineveh!

10When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.

Do you think the Lord could have pardoned any of these kings?

What will the Lord do to us because of our leadership and their turning away from the Lord? Let the history in the Bible be a lesson for us! We need to repent, we need a revival and our government needs to turn back to the Lord before it’s too late!

We need to start with our home!

Joshua 24:15 But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

Are you a servant of the Lord?

Blessings
