1Then Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married, for he had taken a Cushite wife. 2“Does the LORD speak only through Moses?” they said. “Does He not also speak through us?” And the LORD heard this.
Uh oh....criticized!
“The feminine singular verb that initiates the chapter (lit., ‘and she spoke,’ v.1) and the placement of her name before that of Aaron indicate that Miriam is the principal in the attack against Moses.” (Allen)
Some versions say Cushite and others say Ethiopian. Miriam was evidently complaining because Zipporah was dark in complexion and possibly the term Ethiopian was a derogatory term? We just don’t know. But the Lord did!
How will the Lord deal with Miriam?
Stay tuned!
Blessings
