Numbers 3:21-26 Gershonite Burden Bearers!

 The Gershonites

(Numbers 4:21–281 Chronicles 23:7–11)

21From Gershon came the Libnite clan and the Shimeite clan; these were the Gershonite clans. 22The number of all the males a month old or more was 7,500.

23The Gershonite clans were to camp on the west, behind the tabernacle, 24and the leader of the families of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael.

25The duties of the Gershonites at the Tent of Meeting were the tabernacle and tent, its covering, the curtain for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, 26the curtains of the courtyard, the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard that surrounds the tabernacle and altar, and the cords—all the service for these items.

“This is the service of the families, the Gershonites, to serve, and for burdens:

and they shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the congregation, his covering, and the covering of the badgers’ skin that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,

and the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords,

and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them: so shall they serve.” (Spurgeon)

“My first remark is that MANY OF THE LORD’S OWN PEOPLE ARE SIMPLY BURDEN- BEARERS, like these Gershonites.” (Spurgeon)

Who was the greatest burden bearer of them all?

Jesus Christ, he bore the sins of all the world on the cross!

When you think you cannot handle all your burdens, remember what Jesus did for you.

When you cannot handle all your burdens serving the Lord, remember the greatest burden bearer of them all, Jesus!

Are you a cheerful burden bearer?

Blessings, David
