Genesis 27:1-10 The fixer!

Jacob's Deception
1When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called his older son Esau and said to him, “My son.”
“Here I am,” Esau replied.
2“Look,” said Isaac, “I am now old and do not know the day of my death. 3Take your weapons—your quiver and bow—and go out in the field to hunt some game for me. 4Then prepare a tasty dish that I love and bring it to me to eat, so that I may bless you before I die.”
5Now Rebekah was listening to what Isaac told his son Esau. So when Esau went into the field to hunt game and bring it back, 6Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Behold, I overheard your father saying to your brother Esau, 7‘Bring me some game and prepare me a tasty dish to eat, so that I may bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.’
8Now, my son, listen to my voice and do exactly as I tell you. 9Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so that I can make them into a tasty dish for your father—the kind he loves. 10Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.”

Jacob's Deception

Isaac was blind. Martin Luther calculated Isaac’s age to be 137 at this point, he lived to be 180. Isaac lived 43 more years.

There are several interesting points that come from these verses.
In Isaac’s home no one trusted each other.
Issac probably couldn’t taste the difference in Esau’s prepared wild game or Rebekah’s prepared goats. He was more enthralled with Esau using his bow and arrow for the taking of the wild game.
The most important note is Issac was secretly going to pass on his blessing to Esau, a person God despised because he sold his birthright and married pagan wives, and God had said it was going to Jacob.
Genesis 25:23 (ESV)
23 And the Lord said to her,
“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from within you shall be divided;
the one shall be stronger than the other,
the older shall serve the younger.”

Then we have Rebekah, scheming.... “Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.”
All she needed to do was to pray and leave the blessing to God instead of trying to “fix” the situation.

The Fixer! Sounds like a television series!

I must admit I’m guilty.
Since I have been a young boy I have been able to fix things that have broken or have become in the state of disrepair. I have a mechanical ability. It’s a blessing from God. But I have an inclination to “fix” situations when I should pray and leave them to God.

Are you a fixer or do you pray?

Blessings, David
