32And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver.e So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.
33Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
Gen 50:25 NKJV - 25 Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here."
Heb 11:22 NKJV - 22 By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.
“Eleazar’s death meant that another link with the wilderness generation had passed. Now Phinehas was high priest.” (Guzik)
As we age and grow old in our sunset years it gives us time to reflect what we will do with our bones, where we will be buried or cremated. But there’s a poem The Brook that reminds us of our frailty and our Lord that created everything! These lines from the poem could be said of the Lord too!
“Men may come, and men may go,
But I go on forever.”
“As the generations pass, they are each challenged to conquer the land of blessing and promise that God has for them – and we will do it, as we pay close heed to our Joshua, to Jesus Christ.” (Guzik)
Are you paying close heed to our Joshua?
Blessings
