Genesis 30:35-36 Separating the goats!

35That very day Laban removed all the streaked or spotted male goats and every speckled or spotted female goat—every one that had any white on it—and every dark-colored lamb, and he placed them under the care of his sons. 36Then he put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob was shepherding the rest of Laban’s flocks.

Laban would keep all the solid colored goats and he removed the spotted and speckled goats that were Jacobs. He separated the herds with a three day journey between them.

Typical lifespan of a goat is 12-14 years, the average mature weight is 125-175 pounds. Goats require 8 hours of grazing per day and it takes 1 acre of grazing land to sustain 2 goats.

So we can see tending Laban and Jacob’s goat herds was no small task and a separation of 3 days journey was necessary to keep them separated.

Read about a mans journey across America with a goat to raise funds. It will give you  insight on the true size of a goat and their daily needs.

Jesus talked about separating the goats from the sheep. What did He mean?

Matthew 25:32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will place the sheep on His right and the goats on His left.

Will you be considered a goat or a lamb (plural, sheep)?

Blessings, David
