This past week David and helped at the Kids Summer Summit at our Church. Several of us took care of the volunteers pre schoolers that were too young to participate in the actual program.
I heard one mom tell her son he had to wear the name badge sticker "because it's the law". This cracked me up because I used the "it's the law" line on my son so many times.
Did you know in Michigan it is illegal to kill a dog using a decompression chamber? In the City of Detroit there is a law that putt-putt golf courses must close by 1:00 AM. In Arizona there is a law on the books that states "Donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs" and "Any misdemeanor committed while wearing a red mask is considered a felony".
If we speed and get caught, we get a ticket and pay a fine. It's against the law to yell "fire" in a movie theater. Embezzlement is a crime and can result in jail time.
Whether we agree with the laws or not, we still have to obey them or we pay a price. It could be a monetary fine, it could be lack of freedom.
God has reasons for His laws too. It's not our job to decide which of God's laws to follow and which should no longer apply. Thankfully, its not our job to determine the penalty for disobedience, we get to leave that up to God. As Christians, we just have to love each other.
1 Timothy 1:8-11 NLT
8 We know that the law is good when used correctly. 9 For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. 10 The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching 11 that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God.
Blessings, Cecilia
